Student answer (Band 6.5)

In contemporary society, there has always been a considerable debate on whether doctors and engineers should provide services in their own country or they are free to move abroad. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that their freedom is important.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people believe they should work in their own country. First, they are the important assets of a nation and a country spend his resources, while making them enough capable. People believe that they should put their services for the well-being of the society. For example, many doctors and engineers from third world countries move abroad to get better opportunities, although their concerns are legitimate, they should pay attention for the development of their countries by providing services.

On the other hand, others contend that they should have enough freedom to go wherever they want. One significant reason for this is that they have done hard work and deserve to be in a better position. For instance, professionals from deprived areas, where they do not get perks as well as facilities, they should free to move abroad to pursue their career. Professionals from countries including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh should have liberty to work abroad because these professions are saturated in these countries. As a result, they are not facilitated with handsome salary which they actually deserve.

In my opinion, although they should be grateful for their country who allocate their resources on them, people should be given liberty of work at their dreamed place.

In conclusion, although there are valid arguments in favor of their services in their homeland, I believe giving them proper freedom is more beneficial because they not only deserve it but also can get better career opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic contribution to the home country versus the individual's right to career progression. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented but could be further extended with more nuanced analysis or specific examples beyond general mentions of countries. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion is slightly abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the implications of the arguments rather than just stating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor improvements in the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'contemporary society', 'legitimate', and 'saturated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'making them enough capable' and 'they are not facilitated with handsome salary'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise usage of academic collocations. Expanding the range of synonyms and more sophisticated phrasing would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'a country spend his resources', 'they should pay attention for the development', 'they should free to move'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb forms and pronoun usage.
