Student answer (Band 6.5)
In contemporary society, there has always been a considerable debate on whether doctors and engineers should provide services in their own country or they are free to move abroad. This essay will discuss both perspectives before explaining why I believe that their freedom is important.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why people believe they should work in their own country. First, they are important assets of a nation and a country spends its resources , while making them sufficiently capable. People believe that they should contribute to the well-being of the society. For example, many doctors and engineers from third world countries move abroad to get better opportunities, although their concerns are legitimate, they should pay attention to the development of their countries by providing services.
On the other hand, others contend that they should have enough freedom to go wherever they want. One significant reason for this is that they have worked hard and deserve to be in a better position. For instance, professionals from deprived areas, where they do not get perks as well as facilities, they should be free to move abroad to pursue their career. Professionals from countries including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh should have liberty to work abroad because these professions are saturated in these countries. As a result, they are not facilitated with competitive salaries which they actually deserve.
In my opinion, although they should be grateful for their country that allocates their resources on them, people should be given the liberty of work at their dreamed place.
In conclusion, although there are valid arguments in favor of their services in their homeland, I believe giving them proper freedom is more beneficial because they not only deserve it but also can get better career opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic contribution to the home nation versus the individual's right to career advancement. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding 'third world countries' is a bit general, and the conclusion is quite brief. To reach a higher band, the essay would benefit from more nuanced exploration of the 'brain drain' phenomenon or the ethical responsibilities of professionals, rather than relying on somewhat repetitive points about salaries and personal freedom.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the sentence 'although their concerns are legitimate, they should pay attention', where the pronoun reference is slightly ambiguous. Overall, the flow is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'contemporary society', 'legitimate', 'saturated', and 'liberty' used correctly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'allocates their resources on them' (should be 'invests resources in them') and 'facilitated with competitive salaries'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophisticated collocation required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as the comma splice in '...move abroad, although their concerns are legitimate, they should pay attention...' and the awkward construction '...where they do not get perks as well as facilities, they should be free...'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The control of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas in complex sentences.
