Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should work in their own country where they received their training. However, others think that they should be free to work in another country if they want.
One of the reasons for the professionals to stay in their own country is that the government spends money on the education and training of doctors and engineers. In Pakistan, for example, many medical background students study at government universities and receive their training at government hospitals. Therefore, some people believe that these professionals should work in their respective countries for some years. Also, Pakistan already has a shortage of skilled doctors and engineers. If many professionals leave the country, this problem can become worse and for these reasons the country will not succeed in these growing sectors.
On the other hand, many professionals want to work abroad because they get better salaries, other incentives and better working environment. For example, a Pakistani doctor may move to another country because the salary and career opportunities are better there. Working in another country can also help professionals gain new skills and experience. Later, they may use this experience to help people in their own country.
In my opinion, professionals should be free to work in another country if they wish. Although, Pakistan needs skilled workers, but people should have the right to choose their own career and future. Instead of forcing professionals to stay, the government should provide better salaries, job securities and good career opportunities for the future.
In conclusion, some people believe that professionals should work in the country where they were trained because the government invests money in their education. However, I believe that they should be free to work abroad because they can get better opportunities and improve their skills on larger scale.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the government investment argument and the personal freedom perspective. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'shortage of skilled doctors' is a strong point, but it could be extended further with more specific consequences or counter-arguments. The conclusion restates the position clearly. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to expand on the implications of their arguments rather than just stating them, ensuring a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'For example', and 'On the other hand', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the link between the government funding argument and the shortage of professionals could be strengthened with more precise cohesive ties. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is some use of topic-specific vocabulary like 'incentives', 'skilled workers', and 'growing sectors'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. Some collocations could be more natural, such as 'medical background students' which would be better phrased as 'medical students'. To improve, the student should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range and more sophisticated control over word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'Although, Pakistan needs skilled workers, but...' which is a redundant structure (using both 'although' and 'but'). Additionally, 'on larger scale' is missing an article ('on a larger scale'). Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the student demonstrates a reasonable level of control. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on reducing these minor errors and incorporating a greater variety of complex grammatical structures with more consistent accuracy.
