Student answer (Band 6.0)
It has always been a debate whether professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did training. Others believe they should be free to move abroad if they desire. While both views have importance of their own, I believe, that they should be given freedom to choose for themselves. Mandatory service for every student feels restrictive.
Critics argue that it should be mandatory for students to practice in the same nation in which they received training in. They claim that professionals working abroad is brain drain. The brilliant achievers of some country are assumed to be the national prodigy. For example, governments spend hundred, and thousands of public's money for education of the pupils. If they move abroad it would be a loss for the nation, especially in developing nations, like Pakistan. That way a country loses a skilled worker where there is already shortage of doctors This problem may be solved by an obligatory period of time where the professional work locally for a few years to compensate for the public investment.
On the other hand, some argue that the professional who worked hard for themselves should be allowed to look for better opportunities. They deserve higher paying job opportunities, better working environments and the ability to choose for themselves. Moreover, professionals abroad may return home remittances and learn new skills and help out their home country. For instance, Indians working in silicon valley returned in India to start their own set-ups.
In conclusion, my opinion is that government should provide better incentives in order to convince more students to choose their own country. Initiatives like improved salaries, research facilities and career growth might make it more desirable for professionals, to stay. Furthermore, International cooperation programs provide better opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of 'brain drain' and the economic benefits of remittances. However, the development of the argument regarding the 'obligatory period' is slightly brief. The conclusion introduces a new point about 'International cooperation programs' which is not fully integrated into the previous arguments. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but more depth in the supporting examples would elevate the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the transition between the discussion of brain drain and the proposed solution in the second paragraph is slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, contributing to a coherent overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good topic-specific collocations like 'public investment', 'better opportunities', and 'remittances'. There are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'returned in India' instead of 'returned to India' and 'hundred, and thousands of public's money' which is slightly awkward. While the range is sufficient to convey ideas clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the professional who worked hard for themselves' (should be plural 'professionals') and 'the professional work locally' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some unnecessary commas, such as in 'I believe, that they should be given'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
