Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, must be required to work in their country where they studied and practiced. However, others argue that there should not be any obligations to work in any country. I strongly believe that they should be free to work in any country as they wish because some countries offer better opportunities, career development, and better incentives.

On the one hand, some people are convinced that professionals should work in their native country where they studied. They think that the government spends a huge amount of money for their educational infrastructures and resources, and it is their responsibility to pay back for the community. If everyone is given opportunities to work anywhere in the globe, there will be a scarcity of professionals in less developed countries. For example, the majority of professionals will shift to the developed countries for better opportunities, and there will be no doctors and engineers in the developing nations where absolute services are needed.

On the other hand, individuals argue that there should be freedom for every professional to work in any country of the globe. People can earn good money in some specific country. For instance, there will be great opportunities and good incentives for marine biologists in coastal countries rather than landlocked countries. And it must be their rights to work as they wish.

In conclusion, despite the government investment in education for professionals, there should not be any boundaries for personal choices. Professionals may have a better future whey they want to work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of government investment in education and the importance of professional freedom. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'scarcity of professionals' in developing nations is a strong point, but it could have been expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'educational infrastructures', 'incentives', and 'landlocked countries'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'absolute services' (which is unclear in this context) and 'the country where they studied' (which could be more concisely phrased). A more sophisticated range of collocations would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the government spends a huge amount of money for their educational infrastructures' (preposition error) and 'whey they want to work' (typo/spelling error). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and phrasing, such as 'in some specific country'. The control of grammar is sufficient to communicate, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score.
