Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to some beliefs, some specialists, like doctors and engineers should extend their professional life in their native places where they had completed their training, while others think that it's their free will to do that in other countries. In my opinion, they should continiue their works in the region of their schooling.

By staying at the place where these experts have learned the practical knowledge about their sector, they have the ability to contribute to the economy as well as to pay the debts they have towards the country as the government invests enormous amount of money on developing these professionals. Besides, they have the best knowledge about the local health problems and industries, they can improve these sectors by recommending the solutions of the probems that they face. As a matter of fact, they have the opportunity to become the valuable properties of the country. Finally, it gives them chance to show patriotism towards their country.

Despite the above factors, it can be argued that everyone has the free will to organize his or her future. If any doctor or engineer wants to expand their career in other countries, it also opens many doors to them. In contrast, some underdeveloped countries have many brilliant individuals. Since they have a larger amount of skills related to their profession, they may be have the limited opportunities to shine in their own country. For example, USA has more amount of foreign workers in tech industries than the locals. By doing this, they also have the chance to contribute to their own country by sending their incomes to their countries, which will improve the economy.

Although it can be a topic of a larger amount of discussions, I think they should work in their own country. It gives them chance to accurately acknowledge the responsibility towards their country. In other words, loyalty can also be shown by doing this.

In conclusion, despite the above arguments, I believe, working in the place where professionals get their training is more accurate than working in other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should remain in their home country and that they should have the freedom to work elsewhere—while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant and generally supported, such as mentioning economic contribution, repayment of government investment, and global career opportunities. However, some arguments lack deep extension, and the reasoning can be repetitive, such as the repeated emphasis on 'loyalty' and 'patriotism' without introducing new dimensions. This places the response comfortably in Band 6.0, as it addresses the task fully enough with relevant ideas, though some parts are slightly under-developed or simplistic in their progression.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, including a distinct introduction, body paragraphs addressing both viewpoints, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'By staying at the place', 'Despite the above factors', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or awkward, as seen in 'By doing this, they also have the chance...' where the referent is slightly ambiguous. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother and more sophisticated to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'practical knowledge', 'economy', 'brilliant individuals', and 'tech industries'. However, there are noticeable limitations and occasional inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'continiue their works' (spelling error and unnatural collocation), 'valuable properties' (when 'assets' is more appropriate), and 'larger amount of discussions' (where 'great deal of discussion' would be more natural). Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly, meeting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional clauses and relative clauses, such as 'If any doctor or engineer wants to expand their career in other countries, it also opens many doors to them.' There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'they may be have the limited opportunities' and awkward phrasing such as 'more amount of foreign workers'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of grammatical slips and awkward constructions prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.
