Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate about whether professionals such as doctors and engineers should work in the country where they studied or be free to move abroad. Some people argue in favour of contributing to the community they got their education from, while others favour the idea of working in another country if they wish.
Moralists tend to believe that doctors and engineers should stay and serve the country where they received their training. It is their moral obligation to give back to the community that supported their journey. For instance, students graduating from medical college and starting their careers as professionals can be beneficial to the communities they come from. If someone from Tharparkar receives a chance to study at a medical or engineering college, the community awaits their arrival for the changes they could implement. Moving abroad without contributing anything is counted as selfishness and betrayal to their people. Doctors could go back to their areas, arrange medical camps, and diagnose diseases along with providing medications. Similarly, software engineers can help improve the IT sector of the country, and civil engineers could make infrastructure much better. These experts could solve the long-existing problems of healthcare and infrastructure of the country, which could help the country grow and boost the economy.
While believers of utilitarianism advocate for the choice that can produce a greater amount of good and believe that they should be allowed to work wherever they want to. It is believed that people should have free will to choose where to practise and experiment with their knowledge. Often, opportunities abroad are fully funded, such as fellowships, internships, or jobs. It provides them with a good lifestyle and job security, which is often an issue in developing countries like Pakistan. Modern technology and a network of experts can help them widen their horizons and contribute to research and innovation.
I believe that there should be common ground for social responsibility and personal benefit. Experts such as doctors and engineers should contribute to their community after they get their education and training. It helps them to find out root causes of prevailing problems which they can solve in future. After contributing, they can avail opportunities such as fellowships and postgraduate studies on the problem they identified. It can help them establish their footing on an international platform and provide a network of specialists in their fields. Such as, Sohail Khan originally belongs to Quetta, but got his education in the USA. He established Aria Institute of Healthcare in Quetta and still goes abroad whenever there are urgent cases or panel meetings. He is contributing both to his community and staying connected to the world outside of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should work where trained and that they should be free to move abroad—while also presenting a clear and well-developed personal opinion. The arguments are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the reference to Tharparkar and the personal example of Sohail Khan. Ideas are thoroughly explored, demonstrating a strong understanding of the prompt's nuances. While the personal example leans towards a specific narrative, the overall position is maintained consistently throughout the essay, meeting the Band 7 and leaning towards Band 8 descriptors for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to the two opposing views and finally to the writer's balanced conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'While believers of utilitarianism' and 'After contributing'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the highest bands. Overall, the flow is logical, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, such as 'moral obligation', 'utilitarianism', 'free will', and 'social responsibility'. There are attempts to use less common items with an awareness of style and collocation, like 'widen their horizons' and 'establish their footing'. However, there are a few minor lexical awkwardnesses, such as 'community they got their education from' instead of 'received', and a slight grammatical error in the phrase 'advocate for the choice that can produce a greater amount of good and believe that they should be allowed'. These minor slips place the response securely at Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer uses a variety of complex structures with frequent error-free sentences, demonstrating good overall control of grammar and punctuation. Examples of successful complex forms include 'If someone from Tharparkar receives a chance to study... the community awaits their arrival...' and 'Experts such as doctors and engineers should contribute to their community after they get their education and training.' However, a few minor errors persist, such as the fragment 'While believers of utilitarianism advocate for the choice that can produce a greater amount of good and believe that they should be allowed to work wherever they want to' (which lacks a main clause connected to the 'while'), and 'Such as, Sohail Khan originally belongs...' Minor punctuation slips also occur, but these do not impede communication.
