Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people are of the view that certain professions like doctors and engineers should only be working in the country where they completed their training, whereas others believe they should have a free will to work in any country they desire.
On one hand, it provides the opportunity to the doctors and the engineers to practice in a country providing adequate monetary benefits, as well as for the countries to hire the best talent and leading to exponential growth for their country. For example- America's silicon valley hires the highest number of software engineers. It would also help a country close the gap of these demanding and crucial profession required as per their growing population, along with a economic boom and technological and medical advancement for their country.
On the other hand, it might create a higher competition for the domestic doctors and engineers to get hired, also leading to a higher number of unemployment. Different practicing laws could be an additional barrier why different professions might choose to practice in their on own country. For example- a doctor trained in India might be allowed to perform a certain procedure in the home country whereas practising it in the UK might mean being banned for life from practising. The whole transition to a new country could also be challenging because of certain barriers like homesickness, changed weather, different social and work environment .
In conclusion, I believe that the positives outrun the negatives and different professionals like doctors and engineers should be allowed to practice in different countries if they wish to do so.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (training country requirement versus international freedom to work) and provides a clear overall position in the conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as discussing economic growth, talent attraction in regions like Silicon Valley, and legal or cultural barriers like licensing differences in the UK and India. However, some arguments lack full extension; for instance, the points regarding domestic competition and unemployment are stated rather than fully elaborated. Furthermore, there is slight confusion in the second paragraph where the structure mixes the benefits for professionals with the benefits for host countries, impacting the overall development of ideas. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are employed to signpost the structure. However, referencing and cohesion within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or slightly confusing, such as the pronoun use and transitions in the second paragraph. For example, sentences tend to be overly long and burdened with multiple clauses connected loosely by conjunctions like 'along with' and 'as well as,' which slightly disrupts the natural logical progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but internal cohesion requires smoother management to reach a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'adequate monetary benefits,' 'exponential growth,' 'technological and medical advancement,' and 'homesickness.' However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors, as seen in phrases like 'should only be working,' 'free will to work' (instead of freedom), 'close the gap of these demanding and crucial profession' (incorrect pluralisation and preposition), and 'on own country' (typo). Spelling is generally acceptable, but inaccuracies in collocation and lexical precision prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include missing articles or incorrect plurals such as 'crucial profession required as per their growing population,' an unnecessary hyphen in 'silicon valley,' and prepositional errors like 'practice in their on own country.' Additionally, some sentences are run-on and grammatically convoluted, such as the lengthy second sentence of the second body paragraph. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, they demonstrate a lack of consistent control over complex structures.
