Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people think that professionals such as doctors and engineers, should work in the same country from where they completed their training, while others believe that they should be allowed to work anywhere in the world. I believe that there is no need of any restriction on them regarding accepting job opportunity, from all over the world as it helps them broaden their horizon.

Some individuals believe that professsionals should work in their own countries after completing their training, and it might be a good idea as the governments invest a lot of money on their education and in providing them the essential resources. Moreover, most of the countries are already facing shortage of hospital staff and engineers, and there are not enough professionals working in their field.

On the other hand, individuals choosing to study medicine and engineering are highly intelligent students, and they should be allowed to explore work opportunities in other countries. A lot of countries provide better education system and it can help students choose to persue their specialization in their relevant subjects. The European countries pay a really good salaries to these professionals, and people tend to enjoy better lifestyle in those countries. For instance, my brother finished his engineering training and he was offered a job offer of 5 thousand aud from Australia, and he was only getting 1 lac pakistani rupees which were not enough for him to feed his family.

In conclusion, even the proponents of the view believe that professionals should work in the country from where they completed their training, I believe that professionals should be encouraged to work in their own countries if they get good opportunities, but there is no need for any restrictions on them if they want to explore their fields in other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should work in their home countries and that they should be free to work abroad—while providing a clear personal position in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, particularly the arguments concerning government investment in education and the economic incentives of moving abroad. However, some arguments lack full extension. For instance, the discussion on government investment is introduced in the second paragraph but is not fully developed with concrete consequences. The personal example regarding the author's brother provides some support, though it leans towards anecdotal over-generalisation. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and a clear position is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6.5 to 7.0 criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct viewpoints, and a concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Some individuals believe', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally be mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition in the final paragraph: 'even the proponents of the view believe', which lacks precise logical phrasing. Despite these minor limitations, the logical organization is clear and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 6.5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'professionals', 'specialization', 'proponents', and 'resources'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary and idiomatic concepts, but these are occasionally marred by lexical errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'job opportunity, from all over the world', 'pay a really good salaries', and 'job offer of 5 thousand aud'. Additionally, there is a spelling error with 'professsionals' and a phrasing error with 'persue' instead of 'pursue'. While communication is never impeded, these inaccuracies prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Complex structures are attempted, as seen in conditional and relative clauses like 'while others believe that they should be allowed to work anywhere in the world' and 'a lot of countries provide better education system and it can help students choose to persue their specialization'. However, grammatical errors are noticeable and occur with some frequency, including missing articles ('a better education system'), faulty punctuation and comma splices, and agreement issues. Although these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of consistent grammatical accuracy.
