Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some individuals believe that working professionals such as doctors and engineers should work in their own country were they did their training, while others argue that they are free to work as they wish. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why i lean towards this view.

On the one hand, one of the main reasons for individuals arguing about the professionals should work in the same nation were they get training is that they can become an asset for their country. This is mainly because if an individual is an engineer, they can start a business which can benefit for their society. Similarly, if a person is a doctor, they can establish a clinic which can benefit for the people living there. Therefore, these are the benefits of individuals who work in the country were they are been trained.

On the other hand, people who support that they are free to work in any country believe that, if the country does not offer certain facilities and encourage individuals on their required work then they can also choose other countries which offer those, For instance, authorities impose strict regulations on business license that neither doctor nor engineer can start their own businesses so in such case it is best to look for alternative opportunities. In my opinion this view is more convincing because it offers flexiblity to look for better opportunities in other countries and to earn a fortune.

In conclusion, although both views have their own merits, I belive looking for better opportunities across different countries is the best way to lead a life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should work where they trained and that they should be free to relocate—while also providing a clear personal opinion. The position is stated in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments regarding doctors and engineers being assets to their society are underdeveloped, relying on generic examples such as 'start a business' or 'establish a clinic' rather than fully exploring the wider societal or economic implications. The conclusion is also slightly abrupt and fails to clearly reiterate the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and minor cohesion flaws, such as referencing errors ('were they did their training' instead of 'where', and 'i lean towards this view' where the personal opinion was actually stated differently later). Furthermore, some sentences within the second body paragraph run together without smooth linking. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate and coherent, earning a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The lexical resource demonstrates an adequate range for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'asset', 'regulations', 'alternative opportunities', and 'flexibility'. However, there are numerous word choice, spelling, and collocation errors throughout the text. Examples include repetitive misspelling of 'where' as 'were', 'benefit for their society' instead of 'benefit their society', 'require work' instead of required fields, and 'belive' instead of believe. Additionally, the phrase 'earn a fortune' is slightly informal for an academic essay. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional-like structures, such as 'if an individual is an engineer, they can start a business...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('professionals should work... is that they can', and 'people who support that they are free... believe that'), missing articles, and preposition confusion ('benefit for the people'). Additionally, punctuation is weak, with a run-on sentence occurring in the third paragraph ('...offer those, For instance... so in such case...'). Because errors occur frequently alongside mixed structures, this warrants a Band 5.5.
