Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response is incomplete because it stops abruptly mid-sentence in the second body paragraph, containing only 209 words, which fails to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. Because the student only addresses the first view and part of the second view before cutting off, the task is only partially addressed and ideas remain underdeveloped. A clear position is stated in the introduction, but the incomplete nature of the essay significantly impacts the overall development and task achievement score. According to the criteria, a response that is under-length and incompletely developed cannot achieve a passing band above 4.0 or 4.5. Therefore, a band score of 4.0 is appropriate due to the incomplete response and failure to reach the word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The essay attempts to use organizational markers such as 'Intially' and 'Despite above the arguments', but the overall logical progression is severely disrupted by grammatical errors, punctuation issues, and the fact that the essay breaks off mid-sentence. Paragraphing is attempted, with an introduction and two body paragraphs, but the second body paragraph is unfinished. Referencing is frequently unclear, and cohesive devices are often inaccurate or awkward, as seen in phrases like 'Consequently, students could gain international experience after that they may contribute'. While there is some underlying structure, the frequent disruptions place the response firmly in the band 4 range.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous word-form and spelling errors throughout the text. Examples include 'developted' instead of developed, 'ferquently' instead of frequently, 'employeed' instead of employees, and 'skilleds' instead of skilled. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'infrastructure', 'tax revenue', and 'employment', but these attempts are often marred by collocation errors and inaccurate phrasing like 'collect taxes revenue' or 'make a developted country ferquently'. The range of vocabulary is limited and mechanical, causing strain for the reader at times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak, with frequent and noticeable errors that often impede comprehension. The student attempts complex sentence structures, but these attempts are almost always faulty, as seen in fragments and run-on structures like 'Whether, pupils should work on same country after their education or working in another contry.' Subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and preposition use are problematic throughout, such as 'pupils may encourage to working overseas' and 'professional can do work in same nation they incerase employment'. Simple sentences also contain basic errors, and punctuation is misused. The range of structures is very limited in terms of accurate execution.
