Student answer (Band 6.0)

Professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to the work in the country where they did their training. This point of few to some extent is okay, because this will allow the professional to stay in their home country and this will ultimately decrease the dependancy on the foreign skilled population. This is quite benificial for the economy of any country that their skilled professionals remain in the country and does not leave the home town.

Another view is that the professionals should be free to work in another country if they wish. I strongly agree with this because, it provides a lot of exposure to the professionals while they are working in different countries at different places. This will not only strengthened the skills but also allows them to validate their learnings at different origins. Although, there are language barriers, but if appropriately selected, this will truly bring the positive outcomes.

So, from my perspective, professionals should be allowed and free to work as per their willingness in their choice of country. The reasons include, they will work with more passion, they will be focused, get the international and multinational exposure in their respective fields. I would like to mention the example of pharmacists, as they are the key part of health care. Each country requires the pharmcist to be licensed in their respective country. If some one wants to work abroad, he/she needs to pass the country exam first to get registered. Once he get the license, he will be able to practice their. So, this will let him the exposure of that country as well. To conclude, it is encouraging to allow professionals to work freely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should stay in their home country and that they should be free to move—and provides a clear personal opinion. The student suggests that staying decreases dependency on foreign populations and benefits the economy, while freedom to move brings valuable exposure and skill enhancement. Ideas are supported with a relevant example about pharmacists needing licensing. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where points are restated rather than deeply extended. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0 according to the task achievement criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and logical paragraphing, with distinct introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices and referencing are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen with phrases like 'Another view is that' and 'So, from my perspective'. Logical progression is generally clear, though transitions between sentences can feel slightly abrupt. Paragraphing is adequate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother and more varied. This aligns with the Band 6.0 descriptors for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'dependancy', 'benificial', and 'multinational exposure'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'dependancy' instead of 'dependency', 'benificial' instead of 'beneficial', 'few' instead of 'view', and 'strengthened' instead of 'strengthen'. These lexical errors do not significantly impede communication, but they restrict the score to a Band 6.0, as the vocabulary range and precision show limitations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The student attempts complex structures, such as conditional and relative clauses ('If some one wants to work abroad, he/she needs to pass...'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('professionals... does not leave', 'practice their' instead of 'practice there'), article usage errors, and awkward phrasing ('allow the professional to stay... and this will ultimately decrease'). While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.5 the most appropriate evaluation.
