Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of the people nowadays think that professionals who work as a doctor and engineer should work in the nation from where they did their training. However, in contrast, others argue that they should be free to work in any country they want to. In this essay, I will discuss the both views, how professionals can easily adapt to the work environment by working in a particular nation, and how they can extend their knowledge and income by working freely in any other country.

One major benefit of working in the country from where professionals did their training is that they can easily exposed and find it easy to work in the environment. During their training, they learn about the organizational culture and the required skill needed to use the tools and technologies which will help them in their later work. Additionally, they find it easy to expose to the rules and regulations of the particular country. As a result, they find it easy to work and develop their skills in a short period of time. For example, Bangladesh had recently made a rule that every students should work for a minimum two years after completing their study.

On the other hand, letting experts, such as doctors and engineers free to work in their desired country can help them increase their skills as well as income. In other words, they can expand their skills and knowledge by working in a developed country where advanced tools and technologies are used. Furthermore, they can also increase their income level. As a result, such experts can maintain their standard of living along with a wide range of knowledge. For instance, the average monthly payment for doctors in Australia is thrice the payment of Nepal.

To conclude, although such experts can easily adapt to the work environment by working in a country where they did training, they can really earn a high level of income as well as expand their knowledge by working in their desired country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that professionals should work in their training country versus being free to work abroad—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant and extended with supporting examples, such as the rule in Bangladesh and the salary comparison between Nepal and Australia. However, there is a minor tendency to over-generalise regarding how easily all professionals adapt or increase their income. The response covers all requirements well and sustains a clear position throughout, aligning closely with the Band 7 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs dedicated to each view, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'One major benefit', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude'. However, there are some minor mechanical links or repetitive structures, such as the frequent repetition of 'find it easy to', which pulls cohesion down slightly. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the overall structure remains coherent and easy to follow for the reader, fitting a solid Band 6.5 to Band 7 profile.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'organizational culture', 'developed country', and 'standard of living'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, writing 'they can easily exposed' instead of 'they are easily exposed' or 'they can easily expose themselves', and 'average monthly payment' instead of 'average monthly salary' or 'remuneration'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing this performance comfortably at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are several grammatical errors present. For instance, 'Most of the people nowadays think' contains an unnecessary article, 'every students should work' features a singular determiner with a plural noun, and 'doctors and engineers free to work' lacks necessary verbal linking. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the complex structures demonstrate an adequate range for this band. Control over punctuation and basic grammar is mostly maintained, reflecting the descriptors for Band 6.
