Student answer (Band 5.5)
There are two school of thoughts, some argue that professionals should work in the country where they practiced, while others believe that they should be free to choose where they dream to work. This essay will discuss both views.
Firstly, it takes a lot of funds to train professionals like doctors and engineers as these fields of study require abundant hands on practice in order to excel in their relevent careers. Secondly, these facilities are given by the government for the betterment of its citizens because educated younger generation is going to be the foundations of the bright future. For example, the administration of the United Kingdom provide their residents with free education and trainings with stipend to support them, just so they can serve their nation whole heartedly without any stress of living expenses. This way they can focus on their passion along with serving public.
On the other hand, everyone should have free will to relocate according to their interests and preferences. For example, many people are moving to the gulf areas usually at the peak of their professions due better lifestyle and opportunities, they get better environment along with better tax free income. Moreover, some countries simply do not provide their citizens with enough amneties that they should sacrifice their future for, and people move to other areas which require their expertise and can fullfill their needs and aspirations.
To conclude, as a nation it is our job to work for a better and brighter future but at the same time, we should not let go of any opportunity that we get.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (training obligations versus freedom of movement) and includes the writer's own opinion, though the opinion is somewhat briefly stated in the conclusion rather than clearly threaded throughout. Main ideas are presented, such as the government costs of training professionals and the personal pull of better lifestyles abroad. However, some ideas tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, particularly the personal opinion. For instance, stating 'as a nation it is our job to work for a better and brighter future' lacks clear connection to the specific debate on professionals migrating. Despite these minor limitations, the main thrust of the prompt is adequately covered, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing separate viewpoints, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', but referencing and linking can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the transition between sentences in the second body paragraph can be abrupt, and 'due better lifestyle' exhibits a minor cohesive/grammatical slip. Nevertheless, information flows logically enough to ensure the overall progression is clear, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'abundant hands on practice', 'betterment', and 'amneties'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'school of thoughts' (should be 'schools of thought'), 'relevent' (relevant), 'provide' instead of 'provides' for administration, and spelling mistakes like 'amneties' (amenities) and 'fullfill' (fulfill). While these lexical errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The use of functional vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as comma splices (e.g., '...due better lifestyle and opportunities, they get better environment...'). Other structural and agreement errors appear, such as 'the administration... provide' where singular-plural agreement fails. Punctuation is occasionally neglected around introductory elements or clauses. Despite these recurring minor errors, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical performance firmly in the Band 6 category.
