Student answer (Band 6.0)

Most of people nowadays think that professionals who work as a doctors and engineers should work in the nation from where they did their training. However, others argue that they should be free to work in any country they want to. In this essay, I will discuss both views, how professionals can easily adapt to the work environment by working in a particular nation, and how they can extend their knowledge and income by working freely in any other country.

One major benefits of working in the country from where professionals did their training is that they can easily be exposed and find it easy to work in the environment. During their training, they learn about the organizational culture and the required skills needed to use the tools and technologies which will help them in their later work. Additionally, they find it easy to expose to the rules and regulations of the particular country. As a result, they find it easy to work and develop their skills in a short period of time. For example, Bangladesh has recently made a rule that every student should work for a minimum two years after completing their study.

On the other hand, letting experts, such as doctors and engineers be free to work in their desired country can help them increase their skills and income as well. In other words, they can expand their skills and knowledge by working in a developed country where advanced tools and technologies are used. Furthermore, they can also increase their income level. As a result, such experts can maintain their standard of living along with a wide range of knowledge. For instance, the average monthly payment for doctors in Australia is thrice the payment of Nepal.

To conclude, although such experts can easily adapt to the work environment by working in a country where they did training, they can really earn a high level of income as well as expand their knowledge by working in their desired country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should work in their training country and that they should be free to migrate—and provides a clear position. The introduction outlines both perspectives, and the body paragraphs offer relevant supporting arguments and real-world examples, such as Bangladesh's policy and the wage comparison between Australia and Nepal. However, some arguments tend to be slightly repetitive rather than fully extended, and the conclusion introduces a slight shift in phrasing. Nevertheless, the main task requirements are met well, aligning with the Band 7 descriptor for addressing all parts of the task with clear positions and supporting ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions between ideas, such as 'On the other hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude.' Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the response. However, referencing and cohesive links are occasionally a bit mechanical—for instance, the repetitive use of 'they find it easy' in the second paragraph. Overall, the organisation demonstrates clear logical progression, satisfying the requirements for Band 7.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for the task, allowing the student to communicate complex ideas about migration, training, and income. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary such as 'organizational culture,' 'regulations,' 'developed country,' and 'standard of living.' However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Most of people' instead of 'Most people,' 'doctors who work as a doctors' (grammatical redundancy), and awkward phrasing like 'exposed and find it easy to work.' While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect the characteristics of Band 6 rather than higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures successfully (e.g., 'professionals who work as doctors and engineers should work in the nation from where they did their training'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including article misuse ('Most of people'), pluralisation inconsistencies ('work as a doctors'), and minor prepositional awkwardness ('exposed to the rules'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are generally clear, and the meaning is never obscured, placing this performance solidly at Band 6.
