Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that professionals such as doctors and engineers should be required to remain in the country where they received their education and training. Others, however, believe that these individuals should have the freedom to work wherever they choose. Although requiring professionals to stay could benefit the country that trained them, I believe that people should ultimately have the right to decide where they work.

On one hand thier are reasons why a country would not want their professional to leave their homeland, very first reasons which come to mind is they dont want their skilled workers to move aboroad beacuse the country would suffer the lose of some brilliant minds which could help the in countries growth, second reason could be that they don't the want the money they have sepent from the government schemes to educate them and building that persons skills to go to ruin as the person will not be giving any inputs for the country. As of the country in developing state they need the skillful set of hands of engineers to develop further and bring new technologies which can help they get stabalized and increase their growing potential.

On the other hand I would not want as a person that I should be restricted or I should be limited or confined from my personal growth or do what i do the best where ever i want to in my life that should be my choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses both views required by the prompt and presents a personal opinion in the introduction. However, the development of ideas is limited, and the essay is abruptly cut short, missing the 250-word minimum requirement at 243 words. For instance, the second body paragraph relies heavily on run-on structures and lacks specific examples to fully support the claims about government investment and developing economies. Furthermore, the conclusion is entirely missing, as the essay ends mid-thought in the second body paragraph. Consequently, this prevents the response from achieving a higher band, placing it at band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organization, dividing the introduction and body paragraphs, but overall progression is hindered by the lack of a conclusion and faulty paragraphing. The second body paragraph is a massive, single run-on sentence containing multiple distinct ideas (the brain drain, government investment, and developing nation needs) without proper internal punctuation or logical segmentation. Cohesive devices are weak or mechanical, such as 'On one hand thier are reasons' and 'second reason could be', and referencing is occasionally unclear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and adequate at best. There are several noticeable spelling errors and awkward word choices, such as 'thier' instead of 'their', 'aboroad', 'beacuse', 'lose' instead of 'loss', 'sepent', and 'stabalized'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary result in collocation errors like 'skillful set of hands'. While the meaning can generally be extracted, the frequent errors in word formation and spelling restrict the score to a 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, heavily relying on simple or poorly controlled complex sentences. The second body paragraph is particularly problematic, consisting of a massive run-on sentence joined by commas rather than appropriate conjunctions or full stops ('...move aboroad beacuse the country would suffer...'). Frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and clause structuring cause considerable difficulty for the reader and impede the flow of communication.
