IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Doctors and engineers, who mostly constitute the professionals, who had done enormous effort and sacrifice to attain their aspiration in life, can work anywhere as they wished.
I believed, degree holder individual should be freely letting to work where ever they want. As because, this person may excel in other countries or overseas. They may have a chance to explore and progress in different areas as comparing to their native country that they have not given a chance to find a job.
On the other hand, we know that brain drain is happening in various locations, that people in each country especially those in the positions to help should make an act to retain these professionals to give back to their local states and fullfill their allegiance to their mother country by serving their country men first before immigrating to their place of choice where they can feel they are more supported.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding professionals working in their home country or abroad, and a personal opinion is stated. However, the ideas are significantly underdeveloped and truncated due to the severe word count deficit. The text contains only 152 words, falling well short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the development of arguments is minimal, and the conclusion is entirely missing. While the prompt is partially addressed, the incomplete nature of the response and lack of extended support heavily penalises this criterion under the Band 5 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into three paragraphs, including an introduction and two body paragraphs discussing opposing views. There are some attempts at logical progression and transitional markers such as "On the other hand". However, referencing is occasionally imprecise, and the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the overall structure feel abrupt and incomplete. Paragraphing is used, but the overall progression is limited by the brevity of the response. This performance aligns best with Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable word choice and collocation errors that occasionally impede the reader, such as "degree holder individual should be freely letting to work" and "make an act". While the writer attempts some less common terms like "allegiance" and "brain drain", inaccuracies in morphology and phrasing reduce clarity. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic ideas, corresponding to a Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in serious structural errors and non-standard phrasing, such as "who mostly constitute the professionals, who had done enormous effort" and "as comparing to their native country that they have not given a chance". Frequent errors in tense, voice, and preposition usage cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text. This matches the Band 5 descriptors.
