Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that doctors or engineers should work in the country, where they did their training while others believe that they can work in any country they want. This essay will discuss on both views.

I believe that professionals, such as doctors or engineer should be free to choose the country they want to work in. While people who believe that the professionals should work in the country they trained in, have their valid reasons too.

Doctors who work in the country, they trained in are familiar with the health conditions of the country. They have experience with dealing with diseases of the people there. There is no language barrier. Patients are familiar and trust the doctors. The doctors have studied the local pharmacological drugs that have effect with the people.

Engineers are familiar with work conditions and have experience as well.

On the other hand, Working in other country allows the professionals to grow and gain more knowledge. If the work is limited to a specific area it does not allow a person to grow in their profession. A doctor can learn a lot from different experienced doctors from another country, they can even help patients with their knowledge. Some countries have limited resources and less advancements, this is a huge disadvantage to both doctors and engineers. By exploring the work fields in other countries, they can learn a lot. If a professional is very hard working and does great work but their work is not appreciated, then they are free to go to the place where they are appreciated.

I believe that professionals should not be limited to a country. The doctors have the right to treat patients regardless of their background.

An example to support my opinion is the doctors sent to disaster or war sites in different country to treat patients.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views (training country retention vs international freedom) and providing a clear personal opinion. The student establishes a position early and maintains it throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where points are listed rather than fully extended. For instance, the paragraph outlining the benefits of staying in the home country relies on short, disconnected sentences (e.g., 'There is no language barrier. Patients are familiar and trust the doctors.') rather than cohesive elaboration with specific examples. Despite these limitations, the task is adequately addressed in line with Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, body paragraphs for each view, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty. For instance, the transition 'On the other hand' is used, but the internal referencing and logical links within paragraphs are weak. The third paragraph consists of very short, choppy sentences without sufficient cohesive ties (e.g., 'Engineers are familiar with work conditions and have experience as well.'). Paragraphing is present, but overall progression lacks smoothness, placing it firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'professionals', 'pharmacological drugs', 'advancements', and 'disaster or war sites'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but word choice and collocation inaccuracies occur, such as 'have effect with the people' instead of 'affect the local population' or 'work in other country' missing an article. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, making this a solid Band 6 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'While people who believe that the professionals should work in the country they trained in, have their valid reasons too.' However, this particular sentence contains an unnecessary comma that disrupts the subject-verb structure. There are frequent minor errors with articles (e.g., 'in other country' instead of 'in another country') and prepositions. While complex structures are attempted, they often contain minor flaws. The majority of simple sentences are clear, and errors rarely impede overall communication, fitting the Band 6 criteria.
