Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Medical and engineering professional are always in great demand. Some may say they should continue their work in the country where they were trained while others may believe, they should be free to work wherever they want.
Firstly, people who believe these professionals should stay in the country where they went through all the experiments, are not wrong in their opinion. In a country certain programs are taught due to the relevant needs. Additionally, these programs may vary in their curriculum because of the country's future development plans. For example, professionals in developing countries need to contribute to their country's development. Moreover they were trained to do so in their universities through all the theory and experimentation. Thus, they should stay in the country for the greater good.
Secondly, some people are concerned about their free will. An obligation to work only for the country where they were trained may act as an obstacle towards their goals. This may result in pessimism and stress. Therefore, professionals should be free to work where they may find the opportunity. For instance, some graduates from developing countries may move to developed countries because of their goals or the job prospects and financial stability offered in those countries. Although, their work can still be helpful throughout the world because of their research and findings they may publish.
In conclusion, both the perspectives are true and worth the attention. However, I believe one should not be forced to work somewhere rather they should be motivated towards their endeavours. This will not only facilitate the professionals but also the country will benefit from their achievements.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that professionals should stay in their training country and that they should be free to move—while presenting a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. For instance, the writer explains that developing countries need local talent for future development, while also acknowledging the arguments regarding personal goals and financial stability. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as graduates moving for job prospects. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed, placing the response comfortably at Band 6.5 to 7. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay, demonstrating a good overall engagement with the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The writer uses standard cohesive devices to guide the reader, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct viewpoint. However, some transitions and cohesive ties feel slightly mechanical or formulaic, for instance, starting consecutive paragraphs with 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional sentences lack seamless integration. Overall, the structural framework is solid, ensuring that information flows sensibly from the introduction through the well-delineated body paragraphs to the final summary, satisfying the descriptors for Band 6.5 to 7.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'professional', 'curriculum', 'financial stability', and 'endeavours'. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'pessimism' and 'prospects', though there are minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'experiments' when referring to practical university training. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication. While the range is not exceptionally wide or sophisticated, it provides enough flexibility to discuss complex socio-economic ideas adequately, aligning well with the Band 6.0 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional ideas and relative clauses. There are several instances of good grammatical control, such as 'Although their work can still be helpful throughout the world because of their research and findings they may publish.' However, a few punctuation and grammatical errors persist, such as missing commas after introductory phrases ('Moreover they were trained') and occasional awkward phrasing ('rather they should be motivated'). These errors do not impede communication, and the sentence structures are sufficiently varied to support a competent reading experience, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5.
