Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether professionals should work in their home country and providing a clear position in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding government-provided education loans and the duty to serve the country is stated rather than fully extended with specific examples or deep reasoning. Similarly, the points about salaries and migration lack thorough elaboration. The position is generally clear throughout, but the lack of detailed support and extension keeps the response at this level. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop each main idea with more detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some overall organisation with a visible attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on basic transition words like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' to connect ideas rather than smoother referencing. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the vague use of 'they' and 'it' in sentences like 'when they time came to serve to the contry they try to escape'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is mechanical and faulty. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure logical transitions between ideas to build a more fluid progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical resource is limited, utilizing a basic and repetitive vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the response, such as 'professioinal', 'althrough', 'eassy', 'oppurtniti', 'contry', 'energatic', and 'relivent'. Phrases like 'energatic amount of money' and 'conclude better life' demonstrate awkward collocation and incorrect word forms. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'perspective', 'migrate', and 'individuality', these attempts are marred by frequent inaccuracies that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, improve spelling control, and ensure accurate word choices and collocations suited to academic writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, such as 'significant people believes', 'worker should be work', 'goverment did not paying', and 'people haave to free for the work'. Punctuation is also weak, with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the meaning and can cause difficulty. To progress, the writer needs to practice using a wider variety of complex grammatical structures accurately and reduce basic grammatical slips related to agreement and verb patterns.
