Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether professionals requiring to work in the country where they were trained, while others think they should have their own freewill to choose. I strongly believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be free to choose the country they wanted to work at for their personal satisfaction and professional growth.

One of the advantages of choosing your own country to work at is the desire for personal satisfaction. Studying takes a lot of effort and motivation to achieve the desired career. Motivations such as working in a certain country they desire for better opportunities. Limiting them to decide on their own may consequently lead to rebellion and may not pursue their career anymore, which leads to personal and economic collapse. For example, an engineer applied to a country in the middle east such as Dubai for better experience and opportunities because most experienced architect and engineers are based in that country.

On the other hand, although there are benefits of staying in the country they conducted they training to because they of what is ahead of them, such as the rules and regulations, so they no longer need to put some more effort to learn and do more trainings because they already know about them because of familiarity. However, familiarity may lead to burn out because it is routine and no changes in the environment. Some professionals desire challenges, which is not provided if the place is well-known. For instance, Doctors knows what kind of laboratory test is available in a certain hospital because he went their for a training when he was a resident but he wont feel any excitement anymore because he knows what is offered, which can limit their capability.

In conclusion, it is best to let the professionals seek what they want than forcing them to work in a stagnant environment for their personal and professional growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that professionals should stay in their training country and that they should be free to move—while presenting a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the argument about personal satisfaction and the example of an engineer moving to Dubai are relevant but remain slightly under-developed and would benefit from deeper elaboration. The counter-argument discussing familiarity and burnout touches on valid points, such as doctors knowing available laboratory tests from residency training, but the reasoning becomes somewhat repetitive. Overall, the ideas presented are adequate for the task, but extending and clarifying the supporting examples would push the response to a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the distinct viewpoints, with body paragraphs dedicated to the opposing arguments. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical or faulty, such as in the opening sentence 'There is an ongoing debate about whether professionals requiring to work...' where referencing and transitional phrasing feel slightly awkward. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes overused or basic, leading to a progression of ideas that feels a bit disjointed in places. To achieve a higher band, the transitions between sentences and paragraphs need to be smoother and more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'professional growth', 'economic collapse', and 'stagnant environment'. Communication is generally clear despite some errors in word choice, form, and collocation. Examples include 'professionals requiring to work' instead of 'requiring professionals to work' and 'conducted they training to because they of what is ahead of them', which contain noticeable slips. Spelling is mostly accurate throughout the text. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, greater precision and a more flexible control of less common lexical items are needed to reach the next level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles, preposition errors, and awkward clause integration (for example, 'Doctors knows what kind of laboratory test is available... because he went their for a training... and he wont feel...'). Subject-verb agreement slips are also present. These errors, while noticeable, rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the piece. To move beyond this level, the writer needs to produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over grammatical patterns and verb tenses.
