Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals maintain that doctors and engineers should operate in the country where they have studied as a moral responsibility towards their country. Others argue that they should have the freedom to work in their preferred country as in their preferred county, they will be paid more than their own country. I believe in the latter view as working in their desired country would be helpful for their overall well-being.
On one hand, it is a moral responsibility of individuals to serve in the country which nurtured them and provided effective educational infrastructure to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor or engineer. The proponents arguing on this side say it out of their patriotism and they believe that it would be disadvantageous for their country if such brain drain continues. For instance, brain drain in Srilanka has led to an acute shortage of skilled doctors and engineers essential for overall well-being of the nation.
On the other hand, working in their preferred country would give the individuals more opportunities in terms of financial and cerebral opportunities too. The supporters of this trend believe that there is more modern infrastructural facilities in country of their preference. Consequently, the earning opportunities would be more and they would earn more in their preferred country than their home country. For instance, the salary paid to doctors in Srilanka is not the same to that in Canada. So, citizens of Srilanka prefer to serve in Canada. If this trend continues, there would be over crowding in countries with good infrastructure.
In my opinion, working in their desired country would make the professionals feel independent of their choice resulting in increased productivity and efficiency at work. Subsequently, the overall well-being of an individual rises. For instance, the rule in North Korea about the working of individuals in the same country and not abroad has led to reduced productivity of employees at work.
To conclude, working in their preferred country, provides one more earning opportunities than that in home country but this brain drain has resulted in lack of required professionals in the home country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—moral responsibility versus the freedom to seek better financial and professional opportunities abroad—and presents a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the body paragraphs provide relevant examples, such as the brain drain in Sri Lanka, some arguments are left slightly under-developed, particularly the brief mention of North Korea in the final body paragraph, which lacks detailed elaboration. Overall, the main positions are well-identified and supported, demonstrating a relevant response to the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, logical progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, beginning with an introduction that outlines both views and the writer's stance, followed by well-defined body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to signal shifts between ideas, such as 'On one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In my opinion.' However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical, as seen in repetitive sentence openings and transitional phrases, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band of cohesive fluidity.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's message. There are attempts to use less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'infrastructure,' 'brain drain,' and 'productivity.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cerebral opportunities' instead of intellectual opportunities, and occasional word form slips. Spelling and word choice errors are present, but they do not impede communication, allowing the reader to easily follow the arguments presented.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures reasonably well. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('in country of their preference'), minor preposition issues, and occasional awkward phrasing, but these errors rarely impede communication. The majority of the simple sentences are accurate, and the writer shows a sufficient control of tense and agreement, though a wider variety of completely error-free complex structures is needed to progress further.
