Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the prompt minimally, presenting both views and a basic personal opinion, which places the work at this level. Fifty-nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted towards the total length. The ideas presented are limited and under-developed, relying heavily on repetitive assertions rather than clear reasoning. For instance, the writer states that professionals should stay in their home country because 'parents complete every need' and compares this to children forgetting their parents, which is a very limited and tangential development of the argument. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to present fully developed, relevant ideas with logical supporting arguments and clear examples related to the socio-economic impacts of brain drain.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The information and ideas show some organization with basic paragraphing and standard transitional markers such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To colclude', but the overall arrangement lacks clear progression. Referencing and cohesive devices are frequently faulty or mechanical, making the flow disjointed. For example, sentences like 'So this is doctor want to live in our country' and the abrupt transitions between sentences cause confusion for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to ensure a coherent overall progression of ideas, use a wider range of cohesive devices accurately, and maintain clear referencing throughout the essay without mechanical repetition of transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing a limited range of words and phrases that frequently strain the reader's comprehension. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'poeple' instead of people, 'traning' instead of training, 'behaivour', 'forgut', and 'vissa'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate collocations and incorrect forms impede communication in several places, such as 'power humans' and 'successful merchant'. To progress to a higher band, the student must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct spellings and word forms, and demonstrate greater precision and flexibility in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying primarily on simple sentence forms and heavily flawed attempts at complex structures. Errors are frequent and often distort meaning, causing difficulty for the reader. There are persistent problems with subject-verb agreement, verb forms, tenses, and articles, as seen in examples such as 'numerous poeple argue... should be required', 'a lot of students wants', and 'these students sees bright future'. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences joined inappropriately by conjunctions. To reach the next level, the student needs to demonstrate a greater variety of sentence structures with a higher proportion of error-free sentences and improved control over basic grammatical rules.
