Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that skilled workers, such as doctors and engineers should work in the country where they completed their training, while others argue that professionals should have freedom to decide where they work. Although both perspectives have its own benefits. I believe that people should have chance to take independent decision.

On the one hand, proponents believe that professionals must work in the same country where they have trained. The reason for this government provide subsidies and scholarships to support the students financially for those who are not wealthy enough to pursue their degree. In addition, authorities also train students to become a good expert in the field they choose by offering sessions with good experts from all over the world. So, if people decide to move abroad to work then shortage of skilled workers in society arises which may affect the economy of the country. Due to this, people should work within the country to support the development.

On the other hand, it is argued that people should freedom to work wherever they want. When individuals move to abroad then they can experience the different cultures and traditions of that country. Moreover, helps them to learn new modern technologies and new skills which are helpful to become expert in the particular field. So, then people can use their knowledge which they gained in foreign country to help in the development of own country to improve financial status.hence, by moving to different can help to learn more skills to implement in own country development.

In conclusion, working in same country where they trained has certain benefits. I believe that having independence to decide have more advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that professionals should work in their training country and that they should be free to work abroad—and includes a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the first body paragraph presents some relevant reasoning regarding government subsidies and scholarships, but the explanation of how a shortage affects the economy remains somewhat underdeveloped. Similarly, the second body paragraph offers valid points about cultural experience and technology acquisition, but the arguments lack sufficient extension and specific examples to fully convince the reader. To reach a higher level, the ideas would need more thorough elaboration with more specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into standard introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. Logical progression is evident as each paragraph focuses on a distinct viewpoint. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, seen in transitions like 'So, if people decide to move abroad' and 'hence, by moving to different can help to learn more skills'. Referencing can also be unclear, as demonstrated by phrasing such as 'both perspectives have its own benefits', where pronoun agreement breaks down. Paragraphing is present, but within paragraphs, the flow is occasionally disrupted by abrupt sentence transitions and repetitive phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate straightforward ideas about professional migration, subsidies, and skill acquisition. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'subsidies', 'technologies', and 'independence', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice, word form, and collocation errors that occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader. Examples include 'should have freedom' missing a preposition or verb element, 'good expert' instead of 'expert', and 'moving to different can help' where the noun form is misused. Spelling is generally accurate, but lexical control lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'both perspectives have its own benefits' and 'government provide subsidies'. Furthermore, sentence fragments and awkward structures occur, including 'The reason for this government provide subsidies' and 'So, then people can use their knowledge which they gained'. Punctuation and prepositional patterns within grammatical structures also show persistent lapses, such as 'chance to take independent decision' without necessary determiners. While communication is rarely completely blocked, these frequent errors place the grammatical control within the current band.
