Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people may believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required by legislation to work in the country where they completed their education and training, while in contrast others may believe that they should be free to work in another country according to their wishes. This essay will highlight both these views in details with examples, providing a conclusion.
To commence with, Doctors and engineers complete their higher education in one country and usually move to a developed nation to work, as 1st world nations offer greater income levels and amenities. However, the country, they originally trained in, loses it's professionals, leading to a loss of great minds in the nation, known as brain drain. In many countries, professionals are required by law to work in the same country, to avoid brain drain and to provide professional help to the local population. In addition, loss of professionals leads to economic and developmental hurdles for the country, they emigrated from, as top level engineers and doctors are essential in inventions and brand new innovations. For example, a tech engineer develops new apps and innovates in software, this helps the company they are working for to monetise the product, giving commision to the government.
On the other hand, some people believe that doctors and engineers should be free to work in any country they desire, as it is the professional's personal opinion or wish, if they want to pursue their career in the same nation, they competed their training, or to offer services in a different country. Moreover, this increases the representation of the home country on a global level, as top engineers and doctors originate from a specific country and move to other nations. Western nations also provide higher salaries and oppourtunities compared to less developed nations, this creates incentive for a professional to move abroad. Probing ahead, My personal opinion is that doctors and engineers should have freedom to work in any country they wish, as this is a personal matter, stopping someone from emigrating also infringes their right to be free and live as an independent persom.
In conclusion, There are benefits for professionals to work in foreign countries, and benefit to the local population, if they work in their homecountry. This decision should be left in the hands of the professionals, whether they wish to stay and work in their home country or work in a foreign nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the view that professionals should stay in their training country and the counter-view that they should be free to emigrate, while also including a clear personal position in the third body paragraph. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the discussion on brain drain touches upon economic hurdles, but the supporting example about a tech engineer monetising products is somewhat simplistic and lacks depth. Furthermore, approximately twenty words were directly copied from the task prompt, which contributes minimally to task response. Nevertheless, the main parts of the prompt are covered with relevant ideas, placing the response securely at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two contrasting views, the personal opinion, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To commence with', 'However', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand', which guide the reader through the arguments. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the pronoun use in 'the country, they originally trained in, loses it's professionals'. The stepping stone to a higher band would involve more seamless, natural transitions between sentences and paragraphs without relying on formulaic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'legislation', 'emigrated', 'monetise', and 'infringes'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling inaccuracies that prevent the response from achieving a higher score. Examples include word-form and punctuation errors such as 'it's' instead of its, 'oppourtunities' instead of opportunities, and 'persom' instead of person. There are also slight collocated awkwardness issues, such as 'in details' instead of in detail, and 'competed their training' instead of completed. These vocabulary and spelling choices do not impede communication, but they highlight the limitations in precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'while in contrast others may believe that they should be free'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present throughout the text, including unnecessary commas that disrupt sentence flow, such as 'the country, they originally trained in, loses it's professionals'. Verb forms and prepositions also show minor slips, but these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow the intended meaning. To reach the next band, the writer needs to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise better control over punctuation patterns.
