Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is considerable debate about whether professionals such as doctors and engineers should be required to work in the country where they studied and did their training or should be free to choose the country they want to work in , I firmly believe that everyone should benefit from the personal freedom and have the right to decide where they prefer to work .

On the one hand , those professionals were trained at the expense of the state and their education was funded by government and taxpayer’s money, so they have a duty to give back to their country by working locally for at least a few years. Without this restriction, developing countries like Morocco will continue suffering from several consequences like shortage of professionals and brain drain as long as doctors or engineers who where trained locally leave for a better salary abroad.

on the other hand , there are valid reasons why highly skilled workers choose to seek employment abroad. firstly the higher salaries proposed there and the favorable working environment with better career opportunities and prospects. Secondly , seeking a superior financial rewards and an improved living condition , furthermore there is significant gap between the quality of life in Europe compared to developing pays ,particularly in terms of healthcare, educational facilities and public transport .Moreover we have to respect individual rights no matter their situation, everyone should have the freedom to decide what they want to do and where to work and since they’re highly qualified, they’re entitled to pursue a more conducive work environment .

In conclusion , while professional’s immigration offers many advantages such as better opportunities and personal development , it also influences negatively on their local training country. i therefore suggest working a few years in their country and after that immigrate if they want.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion in the opening: professionals should be free to choose where they work. The argument for requiring local service is relevant, linking publicly funded training to a duty to give back and to shortages and brain drain; the opposing view includes pay, working conditions, and individual rights. Your conclusion also offers a practical compromise of working locally for a few years before moving. This covers the task well, but some points are asserted rather than explained: for example, the comparison of quality of life in Europe and developing countries could be tied more directly to professionals’ decisions. The compromise is useful, though its rationale could be developed further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body sections, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the discussion easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the second body paragraph strings together several reasons with “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “furthermore,” and “Moreover” without clearly separating or developing them. The sentence beginning “Secondly, seeking a superior financial rewards…” is not a complete, clearly connected point, which interrupts progression. Use one main idea per sentence, connect explanations to their claims, and check that pronouns and references clearly identify what they refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “brain drain,” “career opportunities,” “taxpayer’s money,” and “conducive work environment.” These choices help express the main arguments, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision, such as “superior financial rewards,” “developing pays,” and “influences negatively on their local training country.” Some expressions repeat broad terms such as “better” and “freedom” rather than specifying the benefit or consequence. Aim for more natural collocations and accurate word forms, and proofread spelling: “where” is used where “were” is intended, and “pays” should be “countries.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex structures, including a contrastive opening and a conditional clause: “Without this restriction, developing countries… will continue suffering…” This shows some range, but control is uneven. The opening is a run-on sentence joining the debate and your opinion with a comma, while the second body paragraph contains a fragment beginning “Firstly the higher salaries…” and another incomplete construction beginning “Secondly, seeking…”. There are also errors in agreement and sentence boundaries, such as “professional’s immigration offers” and the lower-case “i” after a full stop. Break long sentences into complete clauses, check apostrophes and subject–verb agreement, and use capital letters consistently. These changes would make your complex ideas clearer.
