Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals argue that working professionals in the field of medicine and science should offer their expertise in the same country where they learned from , whereas others argue that individuals should be free to choose where they work. In my opinion giving freedom to choose their workplace helps for the betterment of whole society rather than just one country.

On one hand,Working in the country where an indivual has learned, gives benefits like familiarity with the place. People like doctors who work in the same country can relate more easily with patients and their behaviour due to cultural influence, and hence are more equipped to deal with them. Professionals like engineers who use science to design and create solution for society are more exposed to the problems that people face. For example, an environmental engineer who has profound knowledge of the environmental issues faced by people of a particular region, will be able to provide better techniques to rectify it than an outsider with no former knowledge.

While on the other hand, freedom to choose a country to work gives opportunity to explore and engage with other people.Working in another country helps gain new experiences in terms of culture, language and understand how same profession differs in experience. For example a doctor who has studiend and trained in USA but chooses to work in africa will have a new experience as both countries differ in terms of medical reources and other facilities. Lastly, It promotes sharing of knowledge and skills to countries which lack skilled professionals.like many Indian doctors perform surgeries in war torn Afghanistan where the lack specialized doctors.

Working in the same country has benefits but the freedom to choose where work results in betterment of individuals and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for freedom of choice, explaining that it can benefit society beyond one country. The discussion of staying in the training country is supported by cultural familiarity and the environmental-engineer example; the opposing view is illustrated through international experience and the contribution of Indian doctors in Afghanistan. This is relevant and gives the response a sound basis. However, some points are more fully explained than others: the benefits of cultural exchange are asserted rather than clearly linked to improved professional practice, and the final example would be stronger with a little more context. To develop the argument further, explain how these examples support your position and acknowledge any possible costs of professionals leaving their training country.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding statement that restates your position. Examples generally follow the points they illustrate, so the reader can follow the argument. You also use signposting such as “On one hand” and “While on the other hand.” At times, however, these transitions feel mechanical or are not punctuated consistently, and the second body paragraph combines several ideas—personal experience, cultural learning, and addressing shortages—without clearly separating their links. Some sentences also run together, which weakens the flow. Use more precise transitions between ideas and make each paragraph’s central point explicit before adding its supporting example.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “expertise,” “cultural influence,” “environmental issues,” and “sharing of knowledge and skills.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise or awkward, such as “helps for the betterment,” “new experience,” and “former knowledge.” There are also spelling errors, including “indivual,” “studiend,” and “reources,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check spelling carefully. For example, describe professionals as gaining “valuable experience” and refer to “prior knowledge” or “local knowledge,” depending on your meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses (“who work in the same country”) and conditional phrasing (“will be able to provide better techniques”). Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. Examples include “where they learned from,” the missing article in “gives opportunity,” and “where work” in the conclusion, which needs a subject and a clearer clause structure. Commas and spaces are also inconsistent, particularly around paragraph openings and sentence boundaries. These issues do not usually prevent understanding, but they make the writing less controlled. Practise checking articles, complete clause structure, and punctuation, while keeping the complex sentences you are attempting.
