Student answer (Band 6.0)
Over the past few decades, professionals such as doctors and engineers have become increasingly important in many parts of the world. There is growing recognition that they play an important role in society. Training is essential for these professions, and it is beneficial for professionals to receive their training at good universities, regardless of their location. I believe that every professional should be free to work wherever they wish in the world.
Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they received their training. They argue that serving the nation in which they were trained is very important, and from their perspective, they are not entirely wrong. They believe that if doctors and engineers move to another country for work, they will share their talents, ideas, and innovations with that country instead of contributing to the nation where they received their education. They also believe that this could be harmful to their home country.
On the other hand, some people believe that professionals should be free to work in any country they choose, and I agree with this view because no one should have the right to dictate where another person must work. If professionals, such as doctors and engineers, want to work in another country, there may be several reasons for their decision. For example, they may not be paid according to their abilities and the services they provide, or they may not receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve. According to one study, more than 50% of doctors and engineers work in other countries.
Overall, I believe that there should be no restrictions on where professionals can work. Everyone should be free to decide where they want to live and work, as this is a matter of personal choice and professional freedom.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“every professional should be free to work wherever they wish”—and the conclusion reinforces it. You also discuss both views and give a relevant reason for freedom of choice, such as inadequate pay or recognition. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for requiring professionals to stay is mainly presented as what supporters believe, without a concrete example or fuller explanation of how migration harms the home country. The claim that “more than 50%” work abroad is also unsupported and does not explain the issue. Develop each argument with a specific example and clearer cause-and-effect reasoning to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding statement of your opinion. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “Overall” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression within the body paragraphs is somewhat limited. The paragraph supporting restrictions moves from the supporters’ view to possible harm without explaining that link in detail, while the paragraph supporting freedom lists possible reasons but does not develop them into a sustained argument. Some ideas also repeat the introduction and conclusion’s emphasis on personal choice. Build each paragraph around one main point, then explain and illustrate it; use referencing and linking phrases to show how each sentence advances that point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “innovations,” “contributing,” “recognition,” and “professional freedom.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and there is some variation beyond basic everyday language. However, several expressions are broad or repetitive, particularly “important” and “work in another country,” which limits precision. “According to one study” is also vague because the source and relevance of the statistic are not explained. Aim for more specific terms when discussing migration and its effects, and choose collocations carefully. For example, you could describe professionals as “emigrating” or “seeking employment overseas,” and explain whether this creates a “shortage of skilled workers” in their home country.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
Your grammar is generally controlled, and you use a mix of simple and complex forms. For example, the conditional sentence “If professionals … want to work in another country, there may be several reasons” is clear, and the relative clause in “the nation where they received their education” is handled accurately. Most sentences are easy to understand, with punctuation used effectively. To show more of the flexibility expected at a higher level, vary your sentence patterns and make sure longer sentences express relationships precisely. The sentence beginning “They believe that if doctors and engineers move…” is grammatically sound, but its several linked ideas could be divided or reshaped for clarity. Continue checking complex clauses and avoid relying mainly on repeated “They believe” constructions.
