Student answer (Band 6.5)

There has been an ongoing debate about whether professionals ,such as doctors and engineers ,should be required to work in the country where they did their training or they should be free to work in any country of their choice.I believe that professionals should work in their own country for a certain period of time, this tenure should be decided by the concerned authorities. After completion of their tenure ,they should be free to get employment whereever they want.

Proponents of the view, that these professionals should stay and work in the same country where they did their training, cite various reasons to support their claim. To begin with ,governments spend a considerable amount of budget on professionals training endeavours.Professionals should contribute to the welfare of that country so that the government`s investment in trainings may reap some benefits for the country. Moreover, when these professionals get training in a country in a particular set up ,they know the system very closely and know how things work there, if they move to a different country after training ,they might feel themselves alien in the entirely new surroundings .

On the other hand ,some people argue that skillful workers should have their own free will to decide where they want to work .Authorities cannot dictate them to stay in the country from where they did their training.Professionlas sould be free to explore the world and find better opportunities .If they feel they can excel in their careers somewhere else ,they should not be restricted. This might be beneficial for their home countries ,because these professionals when work in a better place ,can send remittances to their countries and contribute to the national treasury .Also ,they can come back after getting exposure and new skills to serve their country better.

In conclusion, there are some pros and cons of professionals moving to other countries after their training.Considering both perspectives,I contend that, professionals should be required to work in the country for a set period of time and after that ,they should be free to go to any other part of the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both views and maintain a clear position: professionals should serve in their training country for a set period, then be free to move. The reasons are relevant and extended, including public investment in training, familiarity with local systems, remittances, and the value of overseas experience. These points support the discussion rather than merely listing opinions. To strengthen the response further, develop some claims with more precise explanation or an example—for instance, clarify how a required service period could balance the government’s investment against professionals’ freedom. The point that workers may feel “alien” abroad is less fully explained than the other arguments. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some scope for more specific support and less generalisation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present the contrasting views, and the conclusion restates your judgement. Ideas progress logically within each paragraph, and signposting such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “On the other hand” helps readers follow the argument. The final paragraph also connects back to the central issue. Some linking is a little formulaic, and a few sentences contain several ideas joined by commas, which makes the relationships between points less smooth—for example, the sentence beginning “This might be beneficial for their home countries.” Use a wider range of transitions and clearer sentence boundaries to make cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “government’s investment,” “national treasury,” “remittances,” and “exposure and new skills.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are not fully natural: “training endeavours,” “skillful workers,” and “feel themselves alien” would benefit from more idiomatic phrasing. There are also spelling errors, including “whereever” and “Professionlas,” alongside inconsistent spelling of “professionals.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling carefully; this would make the vocabulary more precise and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses (“If they feel they can excel…”) and subordinate clauses explaining reasons. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, “whether … or they should be free” needs a parallel construction, while “when these professionals get training … they know” shifts awkwardly between a general condition and a result. Comma placement and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, especially where several clauses are joined in one sentence. Practise parallel structures and review clause punctuation, articles, and agreement. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control without requiring more complicated ideas.
