Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is considerable debate over whether highly qualified professionals like doctors and engineers should be emphasized to work in the country where they got their skills or they should be free to work in another country according to their will. I will discuss both arguments and give my view in the end.

Firstly, some argue that as governments spend a lot of money on highly skilled professionals, so they should serve their nation. It is true that making a competent doctor or an engineer puts lot of financial burden on the state. It is their responsibility to contribute in development of the country. Many developing countries are facing issue of " Brain Drain". In other words these countries spend lot of money on the professionals, and they move to developed countries afterwards, looking for better career oppertunities. Many states face shortage of talented youth, who could have contributed in the growth and develoment of the country. For instance, many South Asian countries are facing shortage of doctors, as doctors upon completion of their trainings move to the USA or UK.

Conversely, Many people think that professionals should be allowed to work in any country of thier choice. They can get exposure of better facilities, and can get oppertunities to work with world's renowned organisations. In this way, they can have a better future for them and their families. They can also contribute in the economy of their home land by sending remittances. Moreover, after working abroad, many individuals return to their country and contribute with their experiences.

In my view, professionals should be allowed to move abroad to work in better firms and get a good exposure. In this way, their skills are polished and personal growth of their career take place. Additionally, when they return they can contribute in many sectors of the country .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear opinion: professionals should be free to work abroad, with the possibility of returning to contribute at home. The explanation of the first view is relevant and supported by the example of South Asian doctors moving to the USA or UK. You also give several reasons for working abroad, including better facilities, career opportunities and remittances. However, these points are not developed equally: the benefits of migration are listed more than explained, and the conclusion largely repeats your position rather than drawing the discussion together. To strengthen the response, explain how remittances or overseas experience benefit the home country, and consider the tension between individual freedom and the public investment in training professionals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a concluding opinion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Conversely,” and “In my view” help readers identify the stages of the argument. This coherent structure is a strength. Some connections, however, feel mechanical, and the first paragraph’s “as … so” construction makes the relationship between ideas awkward. Within the second body paragraph, the points about facilities, family prospects, remittances and returning professionals would benefit from clearer links showing how they support your argument. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and develop each paragraph around a central claim rather than relying mainly on a sequence of points.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “highly skilled professionals,” “Brain Drain,” “shortage,” “remittances” and “contribute.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are relevant to the discussion. There are also noticeable inaccuracies in spelling, word choice and collocation, such as “oppertunities,” “develoment,” “got their skills,” and “get a good exposure.” “Emphasized to work” is also an unsuitable expression for the intended meaning. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to learn vocabulary in common combinations—for example, “receive training,” “career opportunities” and “gain valuable experience”—and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as doctors … move to the USA or UK” and “when they return.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “as governments spend …, so they should serve” combines two structures unnecessarily, while “making a competent doctor or an engineer puts lot of financial burden” has problems with articles and sentence construction. In “personal growth of their career take place,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the phrasing of the sentence is difficult to control. Review articles, subject–verb agreement and the structure of cause-and-effect sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument clearer while preserving your attempts at complex sentences.
