Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individuals believe that people who are well grounded in their field of study, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be allowed to work in another country if they wish. I agree with the second statement stating that, they should be allowed to work in another country if they wish.

I understand that some individuals believe that the fact it was in that country you studied, you are obliged to work there. Because of the fact that, you have to give back to the country that made your profession, pay respect to them, and to better the particular profession you are grounded in the sector in that country, because not only is it ethical and professional, it also expands your job market in that country when employers find out you studied there, they would be more comfortable to offer you are job.

However, some people study in a particular country because of lack of appriopriate finance to travel to another country. This can later change in the future, as to when they want to commence their masters after college, they now have the possible finances to help with their travel, they will leave the country and go do further study abroad. If this person is coming from a developing country and they see the many opportunities this country they are taking their further study at, they would want to remain there and start work, because they know returning back to their home country, they would not be sorted after by employers like their current country, or maybe the rate of salary is higher abroad. This point is very understandable because of the main reason we school, is to gain knowledege to make a living.

Finally, In my opinion, i think people who have studied very well in their field to become professionals should be given the leverage to work in any country of their choice

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion, supporting the view that professionals should be free to work abroad. You also discuss both perspectives: the first paragraph of the body explains a perceived duty to repay the country that provided training, while the next describes financial and career reasons for moving. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The argument for staying relies mainly on ethical duty and employers’ comfort, without examining the country’s investment in training or the effects of professionals leaving. The case for mobility is more detailed, but its examples remain hypothetical and the conclusion simply restates your position. Develop each side with a specific consequence or example and explain why your preferred view is stronger.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an identifiable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the contrast between the two views is generally understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some links are mechanical or unclear. The second paragraph begins, “I understand that some individuals believe,” but its long chain of reasons makes the central point difficult to follow. The next paragraph moves from finances to postgraduate study, then job opportunities and salary without clearly showing how each point connects. “Finally” introduces a conclusion that is only one sentence. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long chains of ideas into shorter units, and make links between cause, example and opinion explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “professionals,” “developing country,” “opportunities” and “salary,” so the main ideas can be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the reader pause. For example, “well grounded in their field of study” is not a natural way to describe qualified professionals, and “they would not be sorted after by employers” appears to mean that employers would not seek them out. There are also spelling errors such as “appriopriate” and “knowledege.” Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling; avoid repeating broad terms such as “country” and “study” when a more specific alternative is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences, particularly when explaining why a graduate might move abroad, but these structures are often faulty and the response relies heavily on long sentences joined by commas. For instance, “I understand that some individuals believe the fact it was in that country you studied, you are obliged to work there” has an unclear clause structure. In “they would be more comfortable to offer you are job,” the sentence also contains errors in the infinitive pattern and article use. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Finally” and “i,” and punctuation around clauses is often inaccurate. Build control with shorter, complete sentences first, then use subordinate clauses carefully and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
