Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been a topic of debate for over a long time that professionals like doctors and engineers ought to be working for their country, where they had completed their training. Another view suggests that they are free to work for other nation, according to their desire. This essay will elaborate both opinions; however I strongly believe in the latter notion.

Many countries are suffering from the issue of migration of great minds. It is argued that after completing their education and training, doctors and engineers who leave their home country in search for good opportunities, should be serving their own nation. Ultimately, it is the country, that raised them and made them capable. They believe that the loss of intelligent people from the nation results in declining of new innovations in the healthcare and technical sectors.

Majority of doctors and engineers are actively migrating to other countries for the better career opportunity. Due to higher competition rates in healthcare and technical sectors, there is no shortage of qualified professionals in these fields. People often struggle to get a well paid job, especially after finishing their education or training, owing to growing competition in the current market.

For instance, in India, technical and health industries are becoming immensely competitive. As a result, recent graduates are struggling to find a descent job that pays well. Consequently, they are actively migrating to other countries like Canada, U.S.A, France and other countries, for better work options. In my opinion, this is the best way that if they follow, can ensure their future is secured.

To conclude, although it is believed that doctors and engineers should not leave the nation from where they received their training, but due to shortage of well paid jobs and competetive market, people should actively look for opportunities in the other nation as it will be beneficial for them only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a clear opinion in the introduction, stating that you support professionals being free to work abroad, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You also explain the argument for serving the country that provided training, including the possible loss of innovation when skilled workers leave. However, the discussion is uneven: the case for staying is only briefly explained, while much of the essay focuses on migration and competition for jobs rather than fully comparing both views. The reasons for working abroad are relevant, especially the example of Indian graduates seeking better opportunities, but the benefits to professionals are asserted more than developed. Explain both sides in greater depth and connect each example directly to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from the concern about losing skilled workers to competition for jobs and then to the example of India. Linking expressions such as “Ultimately,” “As a result” and “To conclude” help signal relationships between points. However, the organisation does not consistently match the task: the second body paragraph develops the reasons for migration without clearly setting out the opposing view, and the India example is separated into its own paragraph despite continuing the same point. Some links are mechanical, and “this is the best way that if they follow” has an unclear reference. Group related arguments and make transitions and references more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “migration of great minds,” “qualified professionals,” “healthcare and technical sectors” and “career opportunity.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “for over a long time,” “other nation,” “search for good opportunities” and “descent job.” There are also spelling errors, including “competetive.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for more natural combinations, such as “for a long time,” “another country,” “seek better opportunities” and “decent job,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish the arguments for staying from those for leaving.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the country, that raised them” and a cause-and-effect construction beginning “Due to higher competition rates.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships less clear. For example, “professionals … ought to be working … where they had completed their training” has an awkward tense and clause structure; “Majority of doctors” is missing a determiner; and “although it is believed …, but” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. The sentence “this is the best way that if they follow” is also difficult to parse. Practise accurate article use, clause construction and contrast structures, and proofread punctuation around subordinate clauses.
