Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people claim that professionals, such as doctors and engineers need to work in the country where they had their training, while others argue that they must have the freedom to choose where they want to work. In my point of view, the professionals should have the free will to choose whereever they want to work.

Doctors and engineers spend a certain period in training before they start their journey as professionals. Some people feel that they need to serve the country where they had their training out of gratitude. For instance, doctors feel the urge to serve the patients in the country where they have their training so that they can properly benefit the citizens of the place that became near and dear to them in the training days. Notwithstanding the emotional side, it may hamper the progress of people in respective fields.

If people working in various occupation can choose where they want to work, abroad or not, they can have a prosperous life. This sense of freedom helps them to grow and work for themselves. For example, if an engineer does not have better salary or lifestyle in the country he or she trained, and moves to a country where they wish to work, he or she may be able to lead a better life. Hence it is important to have the wish to select the country to work.

In conclusion, I want to state that people should not stay in the country where they trained just because they need to give something back to that country, rather they should move elsewhere if they require to in order to lead a better, properous and more enjoyable lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you support professionals choosing where to work, and you give relevant reasons, including personal freedom and the possibility of a better salary or lifestyle. You also present the opposing view through gratitude and service to the country of training. However, the discussion of that view is brief and relies mainly on an emotional example; it would be stronger with a practical reason, such as addressing shortages in the public services that funded training. Your own argument is also developed mostly through one hypothetical example. To make the response more complete, explain the consequences of each position and support your opinion with a more specific example or a fuller chain of reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, and a conclusion that restates your opinion. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Hence,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, some connections are not fully logical or precise. “Notwithstanding the emotional side, it may hamper the progress” does not clearly identify what “it” refers to or explain how progress is hampered. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from freedom to personal prosperity without developing the link. Use clearer referencing and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports; this would make the progression more consistently smooth rather than occasionally abrupt.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “professionals,” “serve,” “gratitude,” “freedom,” and “prosperous life.” These choices allow you to discuss both public service and individual opportunity. There are also attempts at more expressive phrasing, such as “near and dear,” though this is less suitable for a formal academic argument. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “the free will to choose,” “the wish to select the country,” and “better, properous and more enjoyable lives.” Spelling errors such as “whereever” and “properous” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural academic phrasing and check spelling; for example, describe professionals as having the right to choose where to practise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “if an engineer does not have better salary or lifestyle…” and a contrast introduced by “while.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In the opening, a comma is needed after “engineers” before the main clause, and “where they had their training” would be more consistent as “where they received their training.” In “people working in various occupation can choose,” the plural subject requires “occupations.” The final sentence also has a number mismatch in “a … lives,” and its structure is difficult to follow. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use complex structures with clearer control.
