Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You state a clear preference for professionals to be free to work abroad, and you give reasons related to productivity and work-life balance. However, the task asks you to discuss both views, and the argument for requiring professionals to work in the country where they trained is not explained. The supporting points are also difficult to follow: for example, the claim that working abroad improves a country’s reputation is not clearly linked to the professionals’ training or to the opposing view. The examples about advanced countries and China remain general and do not show how the claims work in practice. To strengthen the response, explain the case for retaining trained professionals, then develop your own position with specific, clearly connected reasons and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs also have identifiable central topics, such as productivity and work-life balance. However, progression is limited because both body paragraphs support your own view, leaving the other side of the discussion absent. Linking words such as “firstly,” “another benefit” and “to sum up” provide basic signposting, but several sentences are joined mechanically with “because,” and the relationships between claims are sometimes unclear. For instance, the move from working abroad to a country’s advancement is not fully explained. Organise the body around the two contrasting views, and use clearer links between each claim, explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “professionals,” “productivity,” “reputation” and “work life balance.” These choices show an effort to discuss employment and its effects. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and frequent inaccurate word choices or collocations make some ideas hard to interpret. Phrases such as “professionals peoples,” “own interested country” and “make a wealth” do not express the intended meaning naturally; “enhance” is also misspelled as “inhance.” Repeated use of “work,” “country” and “interest” limits precision. Build a bank of accurate topic phrases, such as “retain skilled workers,” “career opportunities abroad” and “maintain a healthy work-life balance,” and check spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You make some attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “because” and “when,” and the reader can generally identify your main position. However, sentence structures are limited, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries occur frequently. Examples include “I strongly belives,” “this activity make them,” and “they should be free to do work,” where the verb forms or construction are inaccurate. Several sentences begin with “because” as separate fragments, while punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, verb patterns after “should,” and full stops between complete ideas.
