Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some Individuals argue that experts should work in their own country where they studied and practiced during their professional degree, such as doctors and engineers. While some believe they should have freedom to do work in the country they always dream off. In this essay, both side of the argument will be discussed with example and opinion should be given in the ending.

On the one hand, it has become increasingly common that certain professionals try to move to abroad after the specific training and practice in their field because they want to pursue a post graduate degree in their relevant field of experience. For instance, students who graduated from the top universities, they get scholarships in abroad with specialization in their field of study. Moreover, they can achieve their objectives if they want to, it is also beneficial for the country because after specialization they can come back to their home country and serve there.

On the other hand, some individuals believe that these professionals should work in their home country after the studies and practice because these people are experts and if they go out of country it will have drastic effects on quality of medical or engineering services in the country. Moreover, if all the intelligent people who studied engineering and did mbbs they go out of country, then, there will be brain drain in the country, consequently, it will have bad impact on services of these occupations. For example there will be shortage of experts in the country and natives have to suffer due to less professionals.

In my opinion, experts should go to foreign country for the higher studies but they should come back after their specialization and government should also take substantial steps to make it happen by paying them with handsome salary and significant allowances.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion: the first body paragraph supports professionals pursuing further study abroad, while the second explains the risk of losing skilled workers, and your conclusion recommends returning home after specialization. These are relevant points, and the examples of scholarships and shortages help illustrate them. However, the two sides are not developed equally. The freedom to work abroad is mainly discussed as an opportunity to study, rather than as a right to choose where to practise, and the benefits to the destination country or the professional are not explored. The argument for requiring people to return is clearer, but would be stronger with a specific example or fuller explanation of how return-service policies could work.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The signposting phrases “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the discussion easy to follow, and “Moreover” and “For example” help connect supporting points. However, some links are mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is occasionally unclear. In the first body paragraph, the move from professionals seeking postgraduate study to the claim that this benefits their home country needs a clearer explanation. The introduction also promises that the opinion will appear “in the ending,” which is an awkward signpost rather than a natural transition. Use clearer links between each claim and its consequence, and make references such as “these people” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “specialization,” “brain drain,” “shortage of experts” and “substantial steps.” These expressions help communicate the main ideas and show attempts to use less common language. Some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “move to abroad,” “dream off,” “drastic effects on quality” and “handsome salary.” There is also some repetition of “country,” “professionals” and “field.” Aim for more precise, natural combinations and vary repeated terms—for example, distinguish between working abroad and studying abroad, and use “home country” or “country of origin” where appropriate. These improvements would make the argument sound more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “if” and “after,” and the overall meaning is generally clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as “Moreover, they can achieve their objectives if they want to.” However, there are several grammatical errors in longer constructions. For example, “students who graduated from the top universities, they get scholarships” has an unnecessary repeated subject, while “if all the intelligent people … they go out” also repeats the subject after the conditional clause. The opening sentence has an unclear structure, and “opinion should be given” is an awkward passive construction. Practise building conditional sentences and relative clauses without repeating subjects, and check articles, agreement and punctuation when combining ideas.
