Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
A proportion of population agree to the idea that individuals who have career in the feild of medicine and engineering must be rooted to the nation from where they gained the knowledge and skills from, while others believe that they have the right of being independent enough to choose their path themselves. I will be discussing both of the views in the subsequent paragraphs.
Professionals such as doctors and engineers must contribute to the society that they were educated from and gained the experience while training. Brain drain is never beneficial for the development for the nation. For instance, in Nepal, many professionals have moved abroad in search of better job or opportunities. This has been impacting the overall health sector of the country and we barely find any skilled doctors in the hospitals.
On the other hand, professionals must have the freedom to choose where they want to work and it is necessary that their ambitions are fulfilled. Any individual cannot be chained to certain country just because they gained their training from the place. It is their right to decide where they want to work and if better opportunities strikes such as job or incentive is offered they have the right to choose better for themselves. Imagine, being in the shoes of such professionals, we would certainly look for better opportunities rather than be bound in the place where we do not see growth opportunities just for the sake of provided training we gained from the place.
At last, the professionals should be provided with better opportunities and infrastructure in order to stop brain drain and also help them consider staying in the nation, they once trained, by providing the sufficient support.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a relevant position: the first body paragraph argues that trained professionals should serve their country, while the next supports their freedom to choose, and the conclusion favours improving local conditions to encourage them to stay. The Nepal example makes the concern about brain drain concrete. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for staying is supported with a specific consequence, whereas the freedom argument relies mainly on general claims about ambition and better opportunities. Your final position is also somewhat indirect; state clearly whether professionals should be free to move, while explaining what obligations or incentives you consider fair. Developing that comparison would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement, moving from an introduction to one paragraph for each view and then a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift, and the ideas within each body paragraph generally follow a sensible order. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some stronger progression. However, linking is occasionally mechanical, particularly the announced phrase “I will be discussing both of the views in the subsequent paragraphs” and “At last.” Some references are also imprecise: “the place” and “they once trained” require the reader to infer which country is meant. Use more natural transitions and make references explicit to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant terms such as “brain drain,” “infrastructure,” “ambitions,” and “opportunities.” These choices help communicate the central arguments, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural expressions. For example, “a proportion of population” and “better for themselves” are not natural collocations, while “feild” is a spelling error. “The overall health sector” is also an imprecise phrase for the impact described. These examples show attempts to use formal and topic-specific vocabulary, but control is not consistent. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling and word forms; this would make the argument sound more fluent and appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the society that they were educated from” and a conditional example beginning “Imagine, being in the shoes of such professionals.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, so grammatical problems rarely prevent understanding. Some errors remain in sentence construction and agreement. For instance, “if better opportunities strikes” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “Imagine, being in the shoes” is an awkwardly formed sentence. The opening sentence is also long and difficult to control, with several ideas joined together. Practise building accurate complex sentences and review agreement, articles, and punctuation, especially in longer sentences.
