Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that professionals, like doctors and engineers should work at the same country where they graduated from, while others thinks they should be allowed to work according to their free will. In my opinion, although brain drain is a real problem for many countries, professional should be free to work anywhere they want.

On the one hand, many developing countries are facing lack of professional worker, beacuse of the brain drain to developed countries. As a results, there are many issues in health and infrastructre departments. For example, many doctors and It specialist from Pakistan moves to europe or middle east every year after completing degree, due to which, Paksitan health and IT sectors are deteriorating. Moreover, its also waste of government funds as many high professions are funded by local governemnts for people to improve their own system.

On the other hand, people shpuld be free to choose their country of working. Everyone has the right to choose their path. People have family to feed and look after, they may be facing financial problems to cover their needs. Many people work abroad because they are offered better packages and security. Furthermore, some countries offers degrees but they don not have resources or infrastructures to work, so their talent can waste. For instance, many countries offer degrees in space engineering, but they don not have space program, as a result they move to USA to work in NASA.

In conclusion, I believe that, despite brain drain, professionals should be free to work in any country, as their talent may go waste and they are allowed to earn and secure better future for their family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a consistent opinion: professionals should be free to work abroad despite the effects of brain drain. The two body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including shortages in developing countries, public investment in training, family needs, and limited employment opportunities. The Pakistan example and the space-engineering example help make the discussion concrete. This meets the core requirements well, and your position is clear. To develop the response further, explain the consequences and reasoning behind some claims more fully—for example, how governments might balance their investment in training with professionals’ freedom to move. The point about countries lacking resources is relevant but could be connected more explicitly to why migration is a fair or necessary outcome.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction presents the issue and your view, the body paragraphs discuss each side, and the conclusion restates your position. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the structure easy to follow. Ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped logically, and examples follow the claims they support. To make the flow more natural, vary the linking expressions and strengthen connections between individual points. For instance, the move from family responsibilities to better packages is understandable, but a brief explanation of how these factors relate would improve continuity. Check references such as “they” in the final body paragraph so the reader can immediately identify who or what the pronoun refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “brain drain,” “developing countries,” “infrastructures,” “packages,” and “space engineering,” which allows you to discuss the issue clearly. There is some range in how you express the two sides, but word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are not consistently controlled. Examples include “same country,” “professional worker,” “high professions,” and “country of working”; these sound unnatural or imprecise in context. Spelling errors such as “beacuse,” “infrastructre,” and “governemnts” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural collocations for migration and employment, and proofread spelling and word forms. More precise phrasing would make your arguments sound clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “although,” “because,” and “as a result,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, some grammatical errors remain across the response. For example, “others thinks” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “many doctors … moves” and “some countries offers” show the same issue. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in phrases such as “facing lack of professional worker” and “at the same country.” In “I believe that, despite brain drain,” the comma interrupts the sentence unnecessarily. Practise checking agreement, articles, singular and plural forms, and punctuation, then review complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and correctly connected.
