Some people believe that professionals, such as doctors and engineers, should be required to work in the country where they did their training. Others believe they should be free to work in another country if they wish.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that, some individuals say that doctors and engineers should work in the same country of their training. While others believe that they sholud choose any other country to work in it. I totally agree with the second view. In this essay we will discuss the both views in detail.

On one side, people believe that doctors and engineers should work in the same place where they did their training becuse they want them to be loyal to the country where they learned. Furthermore, they say that professionals should use their experience to make their countries better and to serve their people. For example, if an engineer had trained in one country, his effort should be used in the develoment of this country.

On the other side, others say that those professionals should be free to work in any country. The main reason why I support this view is that, doctors and engineers have a lot of information which can be useful in another country. For instance, well trained doctor get his training from a country which did't have enough facilities to make him implement his theioritical knowlage, in this case he should be free to go to another country to enhance his experience, in addition to earn much more money.

In conclusion, while some people argue that professionals should be loyal to their country, others believe that they should be free to work in any country to enhance their experience and also to get more money. I support the second view which let experienced professionals exchange their experience with others from different country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both positions and state your view clearly in the introduction (“I totally agree with the second view”), then reaffirm it in the conclusion. The reasons are relevant: loyalty and national development support the first view, while professional freedom, gaining experience and earning more support the second. However, these ideas are only partly developed. The engineer example largely repeats the claim that trained professionals should help their country, and the doctor example is difficult to follow and does not clearly explain how working abroad benefits either the doctor or the destination country. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each position and use a more specific example to support your opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one side,” “On the other side,” and “In conclusion” makes the discussion easy to follow, and your position is consistent. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the stronger control associated with more flexible progression. However, the linking can feel formulaic, and some connections between ideas are unclear. In the doctor example, the sequence from limited facilities to moving abroad and earning more is compressed, so the reader has to infer the reasoning. Use clearer reference and transitions that show cause and effect, and develop each paragraph around a more explicit line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “professionals,” “loyal,” “development,” “experience,” and “facilities.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “implement his theoretical knowledge.” However, the range is limited and some choices or combinations are inaccurate or awkward, which can make parts of the doctor example harder to understand. Spelling errors such as “develoment,” “know lage,” and “did't” are noticeable, while “get more money” is rather informal for this essay. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe professionals as “contributing to national development” or say that they “apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure (“if an engineer had trained in one country”) and a relative clause (“where they did their training”). However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. The opening sentence has an incorrect comma after “argued” and joins two contrasting clauses with a fragment beginning “While.” In the doctor example, “well trained doctor get” lacks an article and has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “he should be free to go” shifts awkwardly from the earlier plural reference to a singular one. Review sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and consistent pronouns, then practise building longer sentences with one clear main clause.
