Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, while some people advocates for professionals such as doctors and engineers to work where they are trained, others criticized this opinion, stating that professionals should be free to work in any country they wish. This essay will review both points and argue that professionals should be allowed to work in any nation of their choice.

There are lots of advantages that comes with retaining professionals in a country. One of the most important benefits is that such professionals will be able to boost the economy of country that used its resources to train them. For instance in gombe state, the government pays medical students salary while in school so that after graduation they can be automaticcally enrolled to the health sector of the state to benefit the state. Additionally, Training of professional will be less expensive because they will be trained within the economic limit of the country hence preventing unnecessary competition among nations.

However when professionals work in other nations of the world, they will be able to acquire world class experience that will make them exceptional in their field, which can be used to benefit their home countries in the long run. It can also lead to international collaboration in different professions in different nations of the world. For example accroding to punch newspaper, travelling of medical doctors from Nigeria to United Kingdom had boosted the medical sector of the nigerias' economy.

In conclusion, although retaining of professionals within the country will help boost the economy of the country and prevent unnecessary competition, however there is a lot of advantages from international collaborations in various profession hence such acts should be encouraged by the governement in form of scholarships and grants in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear position in the introduction: professionals should be free to work where they choose. The discussion of retaining trained workers is relevant, and the Gombe example gives it some support. You also explain possible benefits of working abroad, including experience and international collaboration. However, these ideas are not developed equally: the claim that overseas experience can benefit home countries is asserted rather than explained, and the newspaper example is unclear about how migration has improved Nigeria’s medical sector. The conclusion supports international collaboration but does not fully clarify why professionals’ freedom should take priority. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and make the link between examples and your position explicit. This would make the response more fully developed across all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of retaining professionals to the advantages of working abroad is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Additionally,” and “However” help guide the reader. This coherent organisation is a strength. At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear. The conclusion uses “although” and “however” together, creating an awkward relationship between the ideas, while “such acts” has an unclear reference. Some sentences also contain several related claims without showing precisely how they connect. Use linking expressions more selectively and make references explicit—for example, name “international work and collaboration” rather than “such acts.”

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “retaining professionals,” “boost the economy,” “world class experience,” and “international collaboration.” These phrases help communicate the main ideas, and some attempts at more formal language are appropriate. However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or imprecise: “automaticcally enrolled” is not a natural way to describe the arrangement, and “preventing unnecessary competition among nations” does not clearly express the intended benefit. There are also spelling errors, including “accroding,” “governement,” and “nigerias’.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More exact vocabulary would make the argument clearer without requiring more complicated wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although retaining of professionals…” and a relative clause in “experience that will make them exceptional.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “some people advocates” and “advantages that comes”; articles are missing in “economy of country”; and the final sentence combines “although” with “however” in a faulty construction. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly after introductory phrases such as “For instance” and “However.” Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete and logically connected structure. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentences more accurate.
