Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all four sectors and identifies key trends such as the rise of Healthcare and the decline of Agriculture. However, the overview is slightly inaccurate; for instance, stating that Manufacturing held the highest share until 2000 is questionable given the graph's data points. Additionally, some data reporting is imprecise, such as describing the Manufacturing peak as '20 millions' without specifying the unit clearly or misinterpreting the start/end points. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis lacks the precision required for a higher band, as some comparisons are vague or slightly misaligned with the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In summary', and 'Moreover', though some transitions feel mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the final sentence of the fourth paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the flow. Referencing is mostly clear, but the paragraphing could be more balanced to ensure that the comparison of trends is more effectively grouped. Overall, the structure is functional and supports the reader's understanding of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'commenced', 'surged', 'trajectory', and 'plateaued'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'econmy', 'Reatil', 'Heatlcare', 'deamatic', and 'Helathcare'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the lack of precision in spelling and occasional word-choice inaccuracies (e.g., 'contributing highest share') limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and refining collocations related to economic data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Manufacturing sector is contributing', 'Retail sector seen the deamatic rise') and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of the backtick (`) instead of an apostrophe in 'it`s'. Articles are also frequently omitted or misused (e.g., 'in four sector', 'the US econmy'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency and accuracy of the writing.
