Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the analysis is often inaccurate and lacks clarity. For instance, the claim that manufacturing was 'sky high' and remained the same is not supported by the data, which shows significant fluctuations. Furthermore, the description of the agriculture sector is confusing, and the summary statement at the end is vague. The report fails to provide a clear, accurate overview of the trends, and the data points mentioned are often imprecise or incorrectly interpreted. To improve, you must focus on accurately identifying the key trends and reporting specific data points to support your observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently hindered by poor sentence structure and awkward phrasing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand', but they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly, such as the use of 'at a glance manfecturing' at the start. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the sectors. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'manfecturing', 'avilable', 'provinding', 'incresed', 'spontaguoes', and 'sectore'. Additionally, word choices like 'sky high' are too informal for an IELTS Academic Task 1 response. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'ratio of number' instead of 'number of jobs'). To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and pay closer attention to spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('manufacturing sector... have been'), article usage ('in year of 1960'), and sentence fragments ('where in 1980 ratio...'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many sentences starting with lowercase letters or lacking proper terminal punctuation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading your work to correct common errors in articles and verb tenses.
