Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all four sectors but fails to provide a clear overview or highlight significant trends effectively. The description of the data is largely superficial, and the summary provided at the end contains factual inaccuracies (e.g., stating agriculture decreased, when the graph shows it remained relatively stable or increased slightly). The response lacks a clear selection of main features, instead listing sectors individually without meaningful comparison. To improve, you must identify the most significant changes—such as the dramatic rise in healthcare versus the decline in manufacturing—and ensure your summary accurately reflects the data presented in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The second paragraph focuses on describing the graph's layout (symbols and axes) rather than the data itself, which is unnecessary for an IELTS Task 1 response. Cohesive devices are limited and sometimes misused, such as 'Simillarly' and 'In the final analysis', which do not fit the context of describing a graph. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences feels mechanical. Using a wider variety of linking words and focusing on data trends rather than visual descriptions would improve the coherence significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased', 'showed', and 'go'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'inclined in the up come years' and 'increased number of jobs', which are not natural English expressions. Spelling errors like 'Simillarly' also detract from the quality. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined steadily', or 'remained stable', and ensure you use them in the correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The given graphs illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'there were decrease' (plural/singular error), and 'jobs were grew' (incorrect passive/active construction). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. Focusing on basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and correct verb tenses when describing past and present data, is essential for improvement.
