Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 86 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have identified the main trends (the increase in retail/healthcare and the decrease in agriculture), the lack of detail and the failure to provide a comprehensive overview significantly limit the score. The data points mentioned are sparse and do not provide a sufficient summary of the information presented in the graph. To improve, you must expand your analysis by including more specific data points, comparing the sectors more thoroughly, and ensuring the response meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into short paragraphs, which helps with readability. However, the logical progression is weak due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the transition between ideas feel mechanical. For example, the use of 'Overall' is a good start, but the subsequent sentences lack linking words to connect the trends effectively. To improve, use a wider range of cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'meanwhile', or 'subsequently' to link your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'increases' and 'decrease' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'sector of the company' instead of 'sector of the economy'. The spelling of 'respectivily' is incorrect. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a more varied range of vocabulary, including synonyms for trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a sharp rise') and more precise terminology related to economic data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the graph describe', 'the graph shoe') and incorrect verb tenses. The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that you use consistent tenses when describing past data. Incorporating a mix of simple and complex sentence structures will also help improve your score.
