Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all four sectors mentioned in the graph, but the reporting of data is often unclear or inaccurate. For example, stating that agriculture had a 'steady drop... near around more than 15 millions and 2 millions' is confusing and does not accurately reflect the trends shown. The overview is very brief and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall decline in manufacturing versus the growth in healthcare. While the main features are identified, the lack of precision in describing the data points and the failure to clearly contrast the sectors limit the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression within paragraphs is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To initiate with' and 'At the end of the year 2020'. Referencing is also problematic; for instance, the sentence 'That field had started from only 2 after 5' is difficult to follow, making the relationship between ideas unclear. The overall flow is disjointed, and the transition between the description of different sectors lacks sophistication.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'amount of jobs', 'job amount', and 'job figure' are used repeatedly, indicating a lack of lexical variety. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'amount of jobs in various field of US' and 'described steady drop'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, relying on basic descriptors like 'increment' or 'increase' without the nuance required for a higher band. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message but lacks the flexibility needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with articles ('the retail', 'the healthcare field'), prepositions ('at some up from'), and subject-verb agreement. Sentence construction is often awkward, such as 'The manufacturing field indicated first increase in between 1960-1980 and sudden downfall to 2020'. These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data being presented. A greater focus on basic sentence accuracy is needed before attempting more complex structures.
