Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to provide a clear, accurate overview. The data interpretation is problematic; for instance, stating that healthcare and retail were constant between 1960 and 1980 is inaccurate based on the visual evidence. Furthermore, the description of trends is confusing, and the mention of 'profit' is irrelevant to the task of describing employment numbers. Key features are not highlighted effectively, and the summary lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band. The response is more of a narrative description than a structured report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical or misused, such as 'Let us talk about the Agriculture sector'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between sectors. The flow between sentences is disjointed, and the lack of effective linking words hinders the overall readability of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'enlarging there graph' instead of describing the trend of the data, and 'there' is consistently used instead of 'their'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. The student relies on simple, informal phrasing, which is not appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'has develop'), and misuse of pronouns (e.g., 'there' instead of 'their'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before commas and periods. The lack of control over basic grammar significantly limits the clarity of the report.
