Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main trends for the four sectors, but there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student claims manufacturing started at 15 million and peaked at 20 million, which does not align with the provided graph. Additionally, the student incorrectly identifies the country as the 'United Kingdoms' instead of the US, as stated in the prompt. While the overview attempts to summarize the main features, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the misidentification of the subject matter prevent a higher score. The response covers all sectors, but the information is not accurately reported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes confusing, such as the repetitive use of 'like wise' and 'at first'. The progression of ideas is somewhat logical, but the transitions between sentences are often abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the intersection points of the lines. The overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, but the lack of sophisticated linking words limits the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic verbs like 'rise', 'fall', and 'decrease' throughout the text. There are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'manufacturing job is rise' instead of 'manufacturing jobs rose' and 'at different four sectors' instead of 'in four different sectors'. Spelling errors, such as 'fluctuatios' and 'continouslly', occur frequently. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'agriculture face fall'), tense usage (e.g., 'manufacturing job is rise'), and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and errors in number formatting (e.g., 'oof1980'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
