Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 77 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. While you have identified some trends, the analysis is incomplete and lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary of the graph. Several key data points and comparisons are missing, and the response ends abruptly mid-sentence. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, provide a clear overview, and support your points with specific data from the graph while meeting the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess your ability to use cohesive devices effectively. The transition 'Moreover' is used, but the subsequent sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the flow of information. To improve, focus on structuring your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group related data logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You use basic terms like 'jobs' and 'sector' repeatedly. There are also inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'jobs vacancy' instead of 'job vacancies' or 'number of jobs'. The phrase 'rising off' is also incorrect in this context. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a sharp decline', and ensure your word choices are precise and appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in US', 'in manufacturing sector') and incorrect verb tenses ('jobs initially increase' should be 'increased'). The sentence structure is simplistic, and the final sentence is incomplete, which significantly impacts the clarity of your writing. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that every sentence is complete and grammatically sound. Practicing complex sentence structures, such as using subordinating conjunctions, will also help improve your range.
