Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the claim that the manufacturing sector ranked first in 1980 is not clearly supported by the data, and the description of trends is inconsistent. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the data points mentioned (e.g., '16mlm', '2 million') are difficult to verify against the graph. The response fails to make meaningful comparisons between the sectors, often listing figures without explaining their significance or relative changes over the 60-year period. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends—such as the steady rise in healthcare versus the decline in agriculture—and ensure all data points are accurately transcribed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by unclear referencing and awkward transitions. Phrases like 'further details conclude that' and 'On the other side' are used mechanically and do not always connect the sentences logically. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, making it difficult for the reader to follow the development of the trends. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows naturally into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'constnt', 'approxmadel', and 'givntime'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles with precise collocations, such as 'boost-up' or 'actual and agriculture sectors'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary appropriate for describing statistical data, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'significant growth'. To improve, the student should learn and practice specific academic vocabulary related to graph interpretation and ensure that technical terms are spelled correctly and used in the appropriate context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The line graph illustrate', 'jobs... follows'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'in within a period of from 1960 to 2020'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns.
