Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of trends for the manufacturing and agriculture sectors contains factual errors regarding the timeline and direction of the data. While the response identifies some key sectors, the lack of precision in reporting the data points (e.g., 'accounted about 15 millions') and the failure to clearly distinguish between the four sectors throughout the period hinder the overall clarity. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the overall picture of the economic shifts described in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Afterthat', but they are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not effectively link the information. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences feels mechanical rather than fluid. The paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear focus, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Improved use of linking words and better sentence-to-sentence connection would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'illustarte' (spelling error), 'quarter section' (incorrect terminology for 'four sectors'), and 'induced account' (unnatural collocation). The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, relying on basic verbs like 'increasing' or 'dropping'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the frequent errors in word formation and collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to academic vocabulary related to data description is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('in the us', 'in year of 1980'), subject-verb agreement ('number of profession given'), and tense consistency. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex structures often result in errors, such as 'Healthcare sector overlap with agriculture sector between 1960 to 1980 in which number of jobs counted about 3 millions.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors are frequent and detract from the overall quality of the writing.
