Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all four sectors and identifies the main trends. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the manufacturing sector as 'demandable' is imprecise, and the data points provided are occasionally vague or lack clear comparison. While the overview identifies the upward and downward trends, it lacks a more sophisticated synthesis of the data. The response addresses the task requirements, but the lack of precision in reporting specific figures and the reliance on informal phrasing limit the depth of the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Meanwhile', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'the least department' is used awkwardly. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. The student uses non-academic phrasing such as 'work platforms', 'demandable field', and 'the retail department was jumped'. These choices indicate a limited grasp of appropriate collocations for describing economic data. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of repetitive or slightly unnatural word choices prevent a higher score. More precise terminology related to trends and economic sectors is needed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the upward trend was observed' (unnecessary article), 'it was peaked' (incorrect passive voice), and 'the least department' (incorrect adjective usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic sentence construction and verb tense consistency is noticeable. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score.
